Creatures of Grimm inhabit my home, the entire planet of Remnant. They're the only things without a soul, and humanity's been fighting them for as long as there's been, well, anything.

Wow...So I guess that's what all the magic and weapons are for then?

Exactly. And there's schools too, like the one I attend, that train people to be Hunters and Huntresses- the ones that fight Grimm, for a living.

Oh? So you have schools for this sort of thing?

Sure do! And Beacon Academy's the best of the best.

Hmm...That must be pretty nice.

It's definitely somethin' else. And right now, when I last left home and came back here, there this big festival going on. So students from other kingdoms are around, and you get to see what the other academies are like. It's pretty cool.

So you got to meet more people like that?

You bet! There was a dance and everything, at Beacon, as part of the festival.

Wow...That sounds like a lot of fun.

It was, y'know, after a while. At least, until there was some kinda criminal activity in the area that spoiled the end of the dance, but I don't really know much about what happened there.

Of course it does. Even in big schools like Beacon.

Yeah...I kind of know what that's like.

[Although in her case, most of that stuff really could have been avoided.]

Right, bein' a superhero and stuff. I bet villains do that kinda thing all the time.

Mm...well, to be honest, I wouldn't really know about the villain related stuff. That part's still kinda new to me.

See...back home, when I was growing up...There was kind of a...ban, on Supers. Those are people with super powers.

A ban? How could anyone even do that?

[Like, literally. How does that kinda thing even go down?]

There were a lot of...legal issues. People filed lawsuits against supers, for various reasons. Wrongfully saved, property damage, that kind of thing.

The lawsuits cost the government a lot, and so they set up a program that relocated Supers. Superheroes were granted pardon for all the good they did, but only under the condition that they never used their powers again.

Whoaa... I can't even imagine what that'd be like.

It wasn't easy, I can tell you that...especially for Supers who just couldn't stop being heroes.

After a sudden change like that? [He wound the subject around in his mind, and then shook his head.] I kinda can't blame 'em. I'd probably keep going around doing heroic stuff, too.

Yeah, but after fifteen years, you think it'd be easier for them to settle...

[That might just be a touch of bitterness in her voice. Just a bit.]

I dunno, I still see why some would wanna do that. I mean, that's not right, what the government did. There's gotta be better ways to go about dealing with that kinda problem than just, shutting everything down!
