13th Gem [Video]

Tis the season everypony.

[Dame Rarity appears on screen wearing a marvelous pale purple sweater with accenting amethysts added to the collar and cuffs. She does a pose, showing off the comfortable sweater from every angle before taking a step back to reveal various other sweaters in numerous sizes and colors. Along with the sweaters are comfortable winter coats and scarves that obviously match.]

You could say this is my winter collection for this years Hearth's Warming Eve. Of course, each sweater is made with a material created by yours truly to resist collecting dust or pet hair

And for those of you who are more....battle oriented, I can design warm clothes that are still stylish and battle ready if so desired.

[Well, Rarity could e a little overwhelming sometimes when it comes to her work. She does note the 02 but chooses not to comment for the moment.]

Interesting. Before arriving here, I didn't know what a gun even was. We didn't have that kind of technology in my Equestria and that was definitely for the best.

[A few more notes on measuring and the measuring tapes relented with all the measurements she needed.]

It would have changed the outcome of the war most definitely. I suppose I should be grateful that we had bladecasters instead.

[Littlepip freezes.]

...You know about the war!?

[All aboard the misundrstanding train!]

[She gave Littlepip a strange look.]

Of course, I fought in it. I was taught how to cast a blade from gems at a young age and chose to defend my friends from the likes of General Esteem and King Titan.

How do you know about the war in my Equestria?

[And what a lovely train it is.]

[Littlepip has never heard of Genera Esteem or King Titan before. She must not have come across those memory orbs yet. Speaking of which...]

Uh, there are these things in my time in my Equestria called Memory Orb. They contain memories of people... I've looked into quite a few...

Memory Orbs?

[She looked slightly perplexed. Then again, It would be something either Twilight or Luna might have created without her knowing.]

Exactly, how many did you look into?

I didn't exactly keep count... Over twenty, maybe? I always try and look into the when I find one.

It's how I learned about the past. Er, the past of Equestria. Of ho things were during the war.

Twenty.

[Exactly how many of those things did they create.]

If you don't mind me asking, whose memories were they?

[Maybe thousands. Possibly millions.]

[Littlepip sees nothing wrong with scavenging from ruins, though Rarity might think differently.]

One from Spike, I know for sure. A few others from people close to you an your friends, too, including Applesnack. I think Velvet's got one of Fluttershy's.

[Well that's a little worrying. And yes, she would see definite issues with scavenging.]

Applesnack? I'm afraid I don't know any pony by that name.

[Though, she would guess a relation to Applejack in some way shape or form.]

Oh. Well, he was Applejack's boyfriend. Or... is going to be.

[That stops Rarity in her tracks right there. It may have been over a year and a half since she last saw HER Applejack, but, that didn't mean she didn't still have feelings for the other mare.

Rarity stared at Littlepip, her look guarded suddenly as she set down her pencil.]

Darling, The last time I saw my Applejack, I assure you she had very little interest in stallions.

[Littlepip grows a little confused.]

But... I clearly heard the two of them flirting with each other in a memory orb while he was in the Steel Ranger armor.

[Up went one delicate brow. She didn't recognize the name 'Steel Ranger' at all and if there was one thing Rarity knew, it was all the factions of her Equestria during the war.]

Then you must be mistaken. And, for that matter, who are the Steel Rangers? There were no ponies working under that name during the war on my Equestria.

[...Shouldn't the director of the Ministry of Image know something like this?]

They're a military group trained to use power armor and part of the Ministry of Wartime Technology...

Or wait, ho early are you through the war? Has it just started for you?

[None of that rang a bell. However, to answer Littlepip's question, Rarity summons her blade. The fourteen various gems slip out of their various hiding spots around the boutique to tessellate together beside her with a nonchalant look.]

No, the war had been over for a year or so before I arrived here. It took us nearly that long to rebuild Canterlot and hold a ceremony making Twilight a new Princess of Equestria.

I dare say that the Ministry of Wartime Technology does not ring a bell in the slightest.

Oh, we must be from different Equestrias then... My Equestria's past isn't the future of yours...

[That all comes out as distracted, as Littlepip is no intently examining the sword that Rarity bought out.]

What's this?

I would guess the same or you would know what kind of hell King Titan and General Esteem wrought.

[She relaxes a bit and lets Littlepip examine her sword all she likes just so long as she doesn't touch.]

This is Vorpal, my blade. In my world, I am a Knight Commander of the Order of Nocturne, the head of Princess Luna's personal knights and this is my weapon. It's a rather complicated piece of war magic.

[...As much as Littlepip wants to ask things about the blade, there's something Littlepip needs to get off of her chest. She sits down and sighs.]

Rarity... War is horrible. It never changes. I... When I am from my Equestria, it's... basically a wasteland. I can't imagine how many people died when the megaspells went off... but nobody won the war from my Equestria. Society is fragile and there are lots of barbaric Raiders and Slavers.

But I know of a way to stop all of that. The sad thing is... I can't do it from here...

[She listened and felt sad for her companion. Rarity knew for a fact that war was hell and was ever so grateful the managed to win. But, not without sacrifices.

Rarity set her blade aside and took a seat next to the smaller mare.]

Your world sounds harsh and unforgiving. I know you desire to help your Equestria, that's a desire I can understand all to well and honestly? We lucked out. We won because Twilight decided to sacrifice herself to stop... Well.

[She sighed softly.]

Lets just leave it at war is horrifying. I'm sure you shall get your chance to save your Equestria soon enough.

I have to find the bearers of the Elements of Harmony... the new bearers of the Elements of Harmony. I've only found two so far. It's the only thing that can activate The Gardens of Equestria.

And since not all of the new bearers are here right now, or not even born yet, or The Garden of Equestria not even made yet, you can see I don't have much choice but to wait here, even though I want to go back to the wasteland.

[She nods slightly as Little pip talks. From the sounds of her world, it was much worse off than hers. Something Rarity had hoped wasn't possible in any form of Equestria.]

It sounds like you have quite the task set upon your shoulders Littlepip. Things like that can be rather stressful, and honestly waiting is one of the most stressful things a pony can do when they are attempting to change the world.

[She smiles slightly.]

We once had to wait a month for Twilight to recover from her ordeals before really attacking the enemy. So we were forced to wait in the Canterlot UnderCity and do small raids for supplies and the occasional light attack on patrol units.

I suppose it did leave us plenty of time to train ourselves up a bit. The lessons from Princess Luna definitely helped against General Esteem.

[Littlepip smiles sadly.]

Heh... I guess at least I don't have to face any wars. Just find people.

...Can you tell me more about that sword?

[At Littlepip's request to know more, she calls her sword over again, letting it break apart into its individual pieces and float in front of them. Rarity idly twirled the bridge piece around as she contemplated it for a few moments.]

I think there's no harm in that. I've only ever really explained to one pony how it works and that was Twilight. She attempted to make her own and her results were rather shocking, even by my standards.

You see, this sword is created by unicorn battle magic. The blade itself is unique to the user and can only be used by the person who created it. Most ponies make their blades out of a magically conductive metal and the size and composition of the blade depends on the magic and will of the castor.

[Slowly she started all the other pieces spinning.]

For instance, my blade. Vorpal contains fourteen irregularly cut gems specifically designed to tessellate together to form the sword you saw earlier. I created her myself selecting and cutting each diamond to work together. As you can guess, it took some time to accomplish. And then...

Well, the spell to create her is a rather difficult one. I'm not just using telekinesis to command her. That would be easy. However, you would loose accuracy and control. There is much, much more to it than that.

[She pauses for a moment.]

Knowing that, can you guess why my sword is made of diamonds instead of metal like other ponies?

Uh...

[Littlepip doesn't know exactly why. What does The Ministry of Image have to do with diamonds?]

...They're pretty to look at? The individual diamonds could make for good distractions.

Well, they do look rather pretty. But, diamonds are among the hardest material known to exist. Now, take a look at my cutie mark. You could say finding gems is a specialty of mine.

It takes talent and vision to see an imperfect gem and see the potential it has inside to become beautiful. Finding beauty is my special talent.

You see the spell weaponsizes your special talent. It's.. a rather personal and complicated piece of spell work. In a sense, the sword is an extension of my magic.
