[Sometime after the ponies wake up, scrolls and quills suddenly start raining from the sky. Don't worry, its not the ponypocalypse, its just a squadron of flying white ponies dropping them from above.

Once everyone receives one, the scrolls suddenly glow and come to life, its surface revealing the visage of a large white alicorn with rainbow hair and a golden crown, sitting on a large, velvet-upholstered throne. She has a calm, reassuring, regal smile on her face as she speaks, though those who know her better can see the light of worry and concern in her eyes.]

Good afternoon, newponies! I am Princess Celestia.

I've heard of your arrival in Ponyville and of some of the more interesting stories that have come from it. We're...not certain how this phenomenon has occurred, but we here at the royal castle will put our efforts into solving this mystery, and I hope you will help us out as we wish to help you out!

Rest assured, no harm will come to you. Nor, as some of you have worried, are we holding you against your will. On the contrary, you're free to move about Equestria as you please, be it through Ponyville, Los Pegasus or anywhere in between. I only request that you use the scrolls we have provided you to check in from time to time, so that we know where you might be when we figure out the solution to this current situation.

If you have any questions, you are free to ask them of me. If I am not available - and, I will admit, there are times when I can be quite busy - there are many other ponies willing to help you, including the other princesses of Equestria. We are all in this together, after all.

[And then she smiles a little more. Its a much more relaxed smile. The concern is still there, of course.]

But, in the meantime, I'd also like to get to know all of you! I always like to meet new people, after all. I hear we even have a dragon?

Oh, that's simple enough! You were among the ponies who woke up in Ponyville, yes? Its really a rather unusual phenomenon, seeing so many ponies appear out of nowhere. Especially since some of them seem to come from places other than Equestria!

[A slight headtilt of curiosity. She may as well test her theory a bit further - but also, perhaps, learn some more about this nervous mare. She seems less frightened of the situation and more frightened of her, after all.]

I must admit that you also don't look familiar to me, which I feel quite bad about. I'm generally good at remembering ponies. May I ask your name?

[Okay. Now this Surprise can deal with a bit more.]

Surprise, my Lord. Chief engineer for the Rainbow Factory.

[Oh please. Oh please don't let this be some weird lead I. To talking about the machine in public.]

Ah, Surprise! You must be full of them then, right? And...the Weather Factory? I personally haven't been there in some time, I'm afraid, but I know they have been making some wonderful progress on weather control in the past several years.

How long have you worked there?

[It might become obvious as time goes by that Celestia has no clue. Not so much about what goes on in the Weather Factory, so much as what goes on in Surprise's version of it. Because...all they use is water and magic and such. Nothing special!

Heh...sure I got...I've got all kinds of surprises you know? I just pull surprises out all over the place.

[That isn't a lie. There's a big part of Surprise that loves surprised, and singing, and parties, like so many ponies do. But the way her world is and the nature of her situation has forced her to bury that as much as she can. And when she can use surprises....it's really not in a way she likes.]

After I passed my flight exam. I, uh...I'm a descendant of one of the ponies who made the machine!

I can only imagine that its busy! Do you enjoy working there?

...oh yeah! I mean its great! Who wouldn't-who wouldn't like workin with rainbows...

...I take it that your work is not quite what you'd hoped it to be?

[Even if she doesn't entirely understand why, it doesn't matter at the moment. She does see that strain of dissatisfaction and sadness.]

[Oh. Oh no. It was a trap and now Celestia's goin to show her something much much worse as punishment for being unhappy with her lot in life.]

Oh no! No! It's great I'm just....I should probably go to work right now shouldn't I!

Of course not! I wouldn't force you to do something if you were adverse to it, Surprise.

[And she really wouldn't. The body language is really just setting off bells as to the fact that Surprise is very uncomfortable about her job for...whatever reason that she can't quite figure.

Maybe someone was making her job not go well? Maybe she wanted to do something else? Maybe she was flustered because she was worried Celestia would get her fired?...]

Would it help if we talked later, once you have your hooves back on the ground? I'm sure you're probably a bit overwhelmed...

...Yes, your Majesty. I uh...I can talk again whenever you want.

[This is making Surprise more and more uncomfortable as it goes on. And it's less because of the fact Celestia is talking to her and more the way Celestia is.

Something is really, really wrong.]
