"Somehow, I did it again - that's two years running. Equestria, you are bad for my long-term memory."

"Anyway, yeah, it seems to be a theme that I can't remember my birthday anymore. I turned 20 last month, so...go me?"

"...does this make me too old to be a magical girl? Am I a magical woman now?"

"If you do that, you'd need to introduce a bit of flexibility. Teach the two types how to combine their two aspects into a singular whole." Said Yayoi, pointing at the cards.

"Between the two, there's a lot of close-in power but if you cover that in fire for special, it might offer more umph to the hits."

"So you mean...cover the rocks in fire, and then throw them?"

Mako considers.

"In the most basic laymans terms. You could even turn the rocks into some kind of armor, and then use that for punch and kick moves too."

"And then you could combine one or more elements with another users power. Back home, during the final battle Fire and Wind combined into a flaming storm, and Lightning with Ice into a electrified crystal."

Mako spends a while considering the flash cards and the mats before making some adjustments.

"Rock for defense, Physical Fire for the actual attack? That could work...Rock has a defensive move designed to protect against area-of-effect attacks...hm."

"Plus it'd look cool, balancing the two abilities out," added Yayoi. "Like forming a wall of rock and then punching through it with fire."

A nod.

"That would be pretty useful, yeah...hm."

Mako taps the 'Dark' card with her forehoof.

"I want to do something with this, honestly - Dark is a very...technical type. Lots of attacks with conditional modifiers. I've noticed that a lot of the time, Precures are reactive instead of proactive...some Dark-type moves can be very useful for arresting the momentum of your opponents. There's one, Punishment, that actually grows stronger when used on an opponent that's powered up beyond their base state."

"Buffing and debuffing," said Yayoi automatically. "While not along the same power set, it sounds like a Warlock-class. A precure who focuses on buffing and debuffing would be exceptionally powerful."

Mako hums thoughtfully.

"I didn't think of it like that...but the Dark type does have several moves like that. Snatch is a good one - if the opponent tries to increase their capability in some way, Snatch will actually steal the boost for your own benefit."

"Yep! There's a Precure in the latest team back home and she has the ability to buff and heal her partners. Having someone focusing on debilitating statuses would help, with a big attack from the main abilities for a finisher." Said Yayoi with a nod.

Mako moves the 'Poison' card to match up with the 'Dark' card.

"This is probably a good combination of powers for that kind of fight - Poison has a few attacks that are conditional as well - things like Venoshock and Venom Drench."

She moves the two cards to the 'Special' mat.

"It's not quite battlefield control...I'd like to say it's more like...enemy control? This combination would be focused on negating advantages, not providing them."

"Enemy control sounds like it's probably the better way to put it," said Yayoi thoughtfully.

"Adding in a poison element would probably also give way to a lot of crowd control when it comes down to it."

Mako waggles one hoof back and forth in a 'so-so' gesture.

"Honestly, most of Poison's AOE attacks are huge waves of acid or toxic sludge. Not exactly something to be throwing around willy-nilly outside of an approved battle area, honestly."

I'll admit my own experience with magical girls has been less then positive overall. Though, its certainly not your fault.

"Hmm you have a point. What about statuses like paralyze or sleep then?" asked Yayoi, tapping a couple of cards in thought.

"For Paralyze, Electric. Sleep is kind of all over the place, but one of the best sources is Grass."

Pause.

"Grass types learn all kinds of spore moves to inflict statuses, as well as Bug types."

She tapped the two cards, placing them side by side with poison. "It would change the focus of their abilities."

Mako considers.

"...hmmm. Actually..."

She taps the 'Flying' card.

"The powders of a Bug-type combined with the wind control of a Flying type make a long-range debilitator - there are some really advanced moves that rely entirely on powders and spores that can be directed via the wind."

"Wind is pretty potent as well for Precure. It lends itself to shields, projectiles and/or speed too. If you added Flying to the mix instead of poison and went with Bug or Grass, it would lean more towards that versatility."
