So since Horseland has a way for everyone to jut blabber philosophical questions to everyone else or air their personal business to everyone in town just like home, here's a question for you: who here is familiar with time travel? I'd ask who's used to jumping between dimensions and worlds and blah blah blah but if this is anything where I'm from it's probably nearly everyone. Time travel? Seems a bit rarer but apparently there's at least one other person here who's done it. I'm not looking to start a club or some dumb crap, I'm just curious as to who has and why.

[There's a short pause for a moment.]

Tell me if there's anything cool you did too, I guess. I'm bored and your conversations are boring, so talk about something interesting.

Not precisely time travel, but I am quite familiar with interactions between my universe and one that nearly corrupted reality.

There is just a ton of possible corruption whenever I hear crap like this. Which I guess just makes sense. I guess it's bound to happen, what with someone or something screwing with reality enough, let alone a reality that encroaches on others.

You know how that undead business is, then.

At least I got the body of an ancient Prime out of it.

Well, I know about zombies at least. What, you saying there's just like a universe full of creepy dead monsters out there? ....Cool.

[He doesn't know exactly what getting the body of an ancient Prime is supposed to mean, but he knows that sounds cool too.]

So, what's that? Some kind of ancient alien entity, or what? You get a lot out of it?

More or less. It drives anyone living that ventures in it insane, too.

A Prime is a special leader of us nonorganics, as you would call us. And this particular Prime was a ruthless conqueror who almost subjugated the entire universe in his career.

Guess you organics lucked out on that one.

Hey, you want to see something cool or learn, looking at something that could drive you insane is one of the best ways. Gotta gamble if you want to grow.

Not like there's any lack of jerks trying to conquer the universe. Only difference is how much closer one gets.

Something many second-rate scientists have said time and time again.

That's the thing about conquering everything, it always eludes you somehow. Better off conquering one thing at a time.

And even then, better to start small with what you conquer.

[He should know. He himself isn't a conqueror - yet - though he certainly did work for one. He knew the basic gist of conquest, a piece at a time. And sometimes, even that didn't work out.

Yeah? You should try it sometime, if you haven't. Though it's not like there's much worth conquering here.

Guess there could be plenty of crap to experiment with here, though. Anything you could make would be an improvement to what they have.

That's literally what I've been saying from day one!

I mean sure, the griffons had one thing, but magic doesn't compare to superheated bending lasers.

Magic's dumb and a lot of work for something that could be accomplished a lot easier, and more widely available, with science. This place is like if a little girl vomited up a Lisa Frank notebook daily.

The last place I was in was behind the times but this is like being in the Stone Age. You'd think they'd at least have better widespread electricity by now, or a television or something. Something like a Tesla coil would probably be a miracle to them.

They couldn't get more primitive if they tried...yet strangely anachronistic. They have trains but no rifles? Savages.

I could build a coil in my sleep. If they listened to me, I could advance this place by ten thousand years, but nooo they find me 'morally objectionable'.

Everyone gets angry when you try to experiment with something that could hurt someone else, but you know what? You need weapons, because wars happen, and there are people who do deserve to die at times because they're massive jerks, and because making things like lasers or missiles are just cool.

You need deterrents to stop the jerks who want to take what you care about away from you.

[He guesses that's better reasoning that his previous reasoning of destruction and violence just being funny and cool. ...Hell, he still has a little bit of that reasoning.]

But these stupid animals are going to flip out and think that loves and hugs and kisses are the only thing that can solve anything. Whatever. Sometimes violence is necessary.

You can't use love as ammo, believe me I tried. They're so naive with their 'feelings' and 'love'.

But you, you get it! Where I come from, using the right weapons saves millions of lives. And lasers ARE cool, you can't argue against that logic.

You can't kill someone with them, that's for sure.

[But...then again, maybe in some ways, you could. The 'he' that he was before Mayfield is sure dead because of it, for the most part.]

If you asked me if I wanted a hug or a mech topped out with advanced weaponry and enough firepower to leave everything outside of Horsetown a smoking crater if it had to be...I'd have to go with the mech.

You'd like my universe, cause you just described exactly what my universe is about.

More than less. We tend to have a disregard for organic life.

Though you're looking to be an exception.

I'm the exception to a lot of things, seeing as how great a guy I am, but the organic one isn't it.

Oh well, you still have that vision. Either as a future warlord or a future omnicidal maniac, I can't tell.

I guess we'll see, huh? Gotta admit: leading armies and junk like that? Not a bad gig.

[Because some day he - the real 'him', he guesses, is fated for both those. And while being a warlord sounds fun still? So much of him is at the point that if he can't have Mayfield, stay there and have the life he wanted, he just wants to be alone. He loves trouble, but so much of him doesn't want to bring actual trouble on to others either.

How much can you produce here, anyway? With how sucky the technology here is it's got to be a setback, but I'm guessing it isn't too big a one for someone like you.

You'd be a good fit.

I made a dozen party warheads out of those cannons. But the real challenge? Computers, hard to solder chips when you life with steam-powered savages.

You want parts for that?
