If This Is To End In Fire - Audio/Visual

Hey all, I just got back from Canterlot, and they'll totally let me into the ROTC program. That being said, I also caught a movie while I was there and I just had to cover this song that I heard on there.

Be warned, it's a first take but let me know what you think about it. It's Acapella too.

Ahem.

What do you think? I know it's rough and I didn't get all of the lyrics right but it's a good song. I fell in love with this music from Ed Stormstout's work when I went to see the Pony-bit. I saw the first one in my world, and while it wasn't quite the same, it was still amazing.

So uh yeah, music. Anyone want to help me cover it?

[As Nephenee listens to the song, she is filled with a feeling both new and old. The tone of the music and lyrics...it reminds of when Ashera turned almost the entirety of Tellius' inhabitants to stone. She and a small remnant had been spared, but her family had not, many friends as well. This song... speaks so loudly of that feeling, going into the final battle in the Tower of Guidance, and recent events as well.

Certainly, they had defeated Ashera and everyone had returned to normal, but that feeling of resolution in the face of the odds of dragons and a deity against them, facing what could have been the end of all beside her allies and friends...no idea if they would survive, but if they didn't, they would fight and die as one.

It would be a lie to say she didn't shed tears listening.]

[When the visual feed from her end finally flickers on, she's cleaned up her face so it's not absurdly obvious she's been touched by the power of that song, but her voice is contemplative.]

...That's real beautiful, Sir Flash. Ah...think Ah'll have to pick up a disc of it, even if Ah ain't seen the movies yet.

Ah...don't know much 'bout music, but Ah'd like to help any way Ah can. Even if it's maybe jus' background stuff...

It's a wonderful movie, but the music is beyond compare at times. There's so many wonderful songs out there and so many things move the spirit after a fashion.

I wouldn't mind that actually, it would be wonderful to have someone to sing with or help with writing lyrics. If you'll be willing to work together?

[He's smiling at this, blushing even but he's happy the music touches people.]

Sir Utchy got me The Lord of the Horseshoes, that's the same author, right?

Ah ain't sure how much help Ah'd be on words, but Ah can sure try to sing. Um, Bertie's real good on the piano and singin' -he wrote me a song outta nowhere once-, and Sir Morgan was in a band back home, but he don't know how to play as a pony, Ah think, but he might can sing. That's all the folks Ah know off the top o'my head.

But Ah'd love to help, yeah. Anythin' ya need from me before we start doin' that sorta thing? Like...knowin' what Ah can hit an' such?

[At least if he asks her to sing, she knows a good song, though it's not exactly in English.]

That's right. It's the sequel to the Ponybit, which was one book. Technically the Lord of the Horseshoes is one book but it's separated into three for easier reading.

I don't mind that, I'd like to see a little bit of that though, and see what kind of range you have first. We can get together and I can play a little bit to see where your range is at?

That sounds nice. Uh, can we do it somewhere quiet, with not many folks around, though? Ah don't like crowds, 'specially not for testin' it out. When ya want to get together? Ah'm free after four today.

Sure, I know a nice place near Whitetail Woods we can use. There's few ponies that go there actually.

Ah ain't been there in awhile, but sure! If'n ya get there 'fore me, ya can use the scroll to show where exactly. Ah'll see ya in a bit then?

[A picnic area is set off and Flash has set aside a warm fire as he's strumming at his guitar, humming to himself a little while waiting for Nephenee to arrive. He was excited to hear that she was so excited for this.]

[Nephenee had always sung to herself in the fields when she worked, since it helped keep it a joy instead of becoming tedium. She certainly was no professional, but she had a nice voice, and could put a lot of feeling into it. Hopefully it would serve his purposes.

As she cantered up over a hill not too long after him, she saw the fire and picnic area, and smiled. Good, they'd possibly had been thinking similarly, cause she brought some hot chocolate and warm cookies left over from tea times in her saddlebags. Trotting up, she greeted him:]

Good afternoon! Ah hope Ah didn't keep ya waitin' long, Sir Flash.

[Flash looked up and set aside his guitar to focus on Nephenee. He gave her a smile as he nodded at her.]

Afternoon! No, just long enough for me to get the fire going. I learned how to start fires in ROTC actually with magic.

So, where to begin?

Heh, fancier than Ah do it, for sure. Probably quicker, too! Congratulations on gettin' in, by the way!

[Although she did give him a slightly blank look. Hey, she knew nothing about music, that was his domain.]

Oh, uh, figured that'd be your decision on how to start. Ah don't know much 'bout music. Ah brought cookies an' hot cocoa, though?

Thanks! I guess I was able to impress them in the first week of testing after all.

[He rubbed his chin thoughtfully and nodded.] All right, lets get warmed up and then I can see about transcribing any of your notes you might have.

Uh, ain't sure 'bout notes, but Ah can give ya the range an' speed Ah can do easy?

[She gives him a sheepish grin. She's so good at this you don't even.]

Oh sure, go ahead then. I'll try to match your singing then.

[He pulled out his guitar and twanged the strings a little.]

Alright... lemme give ya range first.

[Casting a look about to make sure no one was around, she hummed the tune of the song for him to match, then once he had it, she sang. She couldn't go quite as high as the Heron Princess had, but she still had pretty good range, hitting the lower end of the song easily. She was also butchering the pronunciation, but...well, no one knew that here.

After she finished, she smiled nervously.]

H-how'd Ah do?

That was beautiful... I think I got the overall tune of it down, and I think I can match the guitar notes to the song actually.

[Replaying a little of the first on his guitar, he continued to the first stanza and asked,] How's that?

It's somethin' called a Galdr back home. If a Heron Laguz or someone special sings 'em, sometimes things happen, like when the Princess and Prince sang it, it brought a forest back to life. Ah guess ya'd call it a sort of magic. Ah ain't one of the special ones or a Laguz, so it don't do nothin', but it's pretty anyway. And yeah, ya got it right on. That's neat ya can match it so well.

So it has power behind it. It's still incredibly exciting to hear honestly. Like it's charged with some kind of energy.

I've been good at playing by ear at least.

Like Ah said, don't do nothin' if Ah do it, but...Ah only heard it once or twice, an' seein' a forest that's been dead for twenty years come to life again kind of made it where Ah don't think Ah'll ever forget it.

Ah gotta admit, Ah'm a li'l jealous of folks that can play music. All Ah can do is grass whistle. [She grinned, because that was kind of the opposite of impressive.] Ya ready to do the second part?

That is incredible. I wish I could have seen it to be honest.

[He nodded, shifting his guitar.] Let's try it again then. [And with that, he started to play a little slower, but hitting the right notes.]
