So, uh... With all the things going on recently, I kinda forgot that my birthday passed at the end of last month.

[Which is a surprise given how many other parties he attended around that exact time.]

I don't usually throw a party or anything, but I'd kinda like to do something. Is there a karaoke bar anywhere nearby, and who would be willing to come?

I don't see any reason not to give you something, seeing as I already have an idea. Don't worry too much about it, I expect to enjoy putting it together.

Normally I'd give people some warning and actually plan a party if I was expecting gifts. This is just an excuse to unwind after the past few weeks.
