Curiously, it appears that when people vanish, their scrolls do indeed arrive back in the Canterlot Royal Archives... we can only assume that they are, indeed, being... returned.
If only we could figure out how, then perhaps we could see to returning all those who wish to depart.

I can't expect to know everything that might have changed. Mayfield was known for messing with timelines.
I'm not surprised she might know more than I do.
