[ She rubs her eyes. ] Okay, I know saying “watch for something unusual” doesn’t really… work, around here. Look, it’s just that there’s a witch in the area, okay? We think its headquarters is the chair shop in the Night Market but we haven’t ever seen her.

And there’s only so much patrolling I can do at night, so… if yer on the Night Market, especially.

No, I mean a cosmic horror that could be causing all sorts o' pain who's out loose right now.

I had guessed it was something of the kind. I have been to the store you speak of. It was... the magic there was fell. And from your world?

It reminded me somewhat of the power of - the being that they call Nightmare Moon, here.

So what's fell?

Fell is merely another word for - fearsome, evil, corrupted.

Yeah, that's about right. But that doesn't sound like Equestria lingo.

Perhaps a thousand years ago, but no. I am not an Equestrian, although the mistake is understandable; I am apparently so akin to Twilight Sparkle as to be her reflection in a mirror.

I am, of all things, a Caelestian - more specifically, from the Principality of Vallesuenos. I am named Lucia. I was and remain a wizard.

As long as yer not a witch, great. But how's that different from a unicorn?

I had my talents while I was a human of the Caelestial Principalities, and they were hard-won through toil and education.

Most of the unicorns here can cast spells - can call the Mage's Hand and other spells according the talent emblazoned on their hips - but few are Wizards. Few have a talent for the study of wizardry itself, for meta-magic and learning spells.

Can ya detect magic? Of different types?

To work with magical powers, one must first be able to isolate and identify them.

The ability to detect magic is the first spell we learned back home.
