[ She rubs her eyes. ] Okay, I know saying “watch for something unusual” doesn’t really… work, around here. Look, it’s just that there’s a witch in the area, okay? We think its headquarters is the chair shop in the Night Market but we haven’t ever seen her.

And there’s only so much patrolling I can do at night, so… if yer on the Night Market, especially.

[ She says this quite reasonably and sits down on her haunches to get more level with him. ] Because if yer like anyone I know then yer like my sister, an' she's younger than me.

I was just like my friends back when they were human, and they were in high school! That's the highest of schools! So at the bear-y least, I'm like them.

[ Kyouko rolls her eyes. ] Fine, ya can be my age. I'm fourteen. But yer not older than twenty.

Boy, you're gonna feel real dumb when I finally find out and it turns out I'm actually forty-seven.

[Because apparently thirty-four wasn't cutting it anymore.]

Why d'ya want to be old, anyway? If yer forty-seven and yer like this, ya've messed up big time. Better to spend as much time as you can around here, right?

Because then I can laugh at Yosuke for being older than him! Oh ho, he'd hate that so much~ But then he'd think I was super cool and take me out to all the fancy adult places.

I fight witches an' try ta stay alive.

[Teddie's not sure what's wrong with boy talk, but whatever! Magical girls!]

And I wanna help! That way instead of just trying, you can stay alive for sure.

[ Kyouko actually considers, at that. She could get a ward without much trouble. ]

Look... I'm not gonna ask you ta help me in battles or whatever because you'd just drag me down. I don't wanna be wonderin' if yer gonna hurt yourself or whatever. So for now, just... keep an eye out for that witch, okay?

... [ She considers a slowly healing wound on her side. ] And yer healin' magic's useful so I might ask ya for that too.

I can do a whole bunch of stuff besides just healing. A-And you should've seen the grizzly things me and Sensei and the guys took on! I could so be a magical girl, just gimme a chance.

Whatever ya can do, I'm sure it's not even close to the caliber of a magical girl. And also, ya en't a girl so ya can't be one.

How rude! For you information, I won the "Miss" Yasogami Beauty Pageant by stealing everyone's hearts! I can be a girl whenever I feel like it, so there.

[AND HE WAS GORGEOUS.]

You just gotta give me a chance, witches can't be as bad as Shadows.

Prove it. Cause ya look a lot like a boy bear ta me. [ She's as rude as they come. But she's not letting some kid get hurt on her watch. ]

An' what're shadows, anyway? [ She says this cautiously. Has he seen horrors? ]

[Do you know how hard it is to find a dress in bear size? It's ridiculous.

Although he isn't concerned about that for very long when she asks about Shadows. His face falters and he attempts damage control.]

I told you, I fought monsters before. A lot of them. Heck, my whole life was monsters before my friends showed up. Just try to think about all the bad feelings you ever had, that you try to hide away from people, that you'd never say out loud. Now try to imagine that as a real living, breathing thing. That's a Shadow.

And they get scary.

[...Well that wasn't damage control at all. Oh well.]

I can fight stuff, I wanna help.

[ Well, this is a kid who's seen too much at an early age.

Her voice drops a little lower. ] Okay, maybe. Just don' say I didn't warn ya or nuthin'.
