When the scroll turns on, it shows Hayate, sitting in her cloud shack and looking thoughtful, her wings rustling in contemplation.

"So, uh...today I realized something. It's been eight months since I showed up here, you know? And in all that time, I haven't died once. This is the longest I've ever gone without getting killed!"

Her wings shudder briefly before fully extending.

"It's actually kind of weird, really, and I'm not sure how to deal with it. Like, what if I get out of the habit? I mean...I'd have to relearn how to fight and everything! So, uh...anyone got any good tips? Where can a girl go to get killed around here?"

What do you mean it's not forever?

All the morphs from my protect died and they're never going to wake up. Ever.

"That...doesn't make sense, though? People don't stay dead from violence."

But... [Mani flounders for a second, those morphs didn't die from Violence, but she does have another example to draw on.]

Yes they do, that's why Humans made morphs, so humans wouldn't die in combat so much.

That's what Art told me, it's his job to tell me things that are right.

Hayate considers that.

"It might be that different world thing again, but it's starting to get kind of creepy how many of these worlds violate the fundamental laws of reality."

So, you really don't stay dead in your world? [Hayate isn't the only one getting a little freaked out.]

It would be nice if the dead could come back in mine too... but if that was the case I might not exist, I think.

"...are you a ghost or something?"

A ghost? No... why do you think that?

"Well, if the dead don't come back, and you wouldn't exist if they did, then isn't the obvious conclusion that you're undead? And you're pretty obviously not a zombie - not enough rotting bits - so I figured you were most likely a ghost."

We don't have ghosts or zombies... I meant that I'm a morph. We were made to help humans, but if humans didn't die then they wouldn't need us to help.
