It's your birthday, just us and your birthday! [Private action to Morgan]

It was a lovely Tuesday eve as the couple exited the building nuzzled up against each other, neither really caring what other ponies thought as they laughed in tandem at some joke shared. It felt nice to laugh like this, especially considering the day before...but it wouldn't do any good to stay in and worry herself to sickness again. She did wish it had come at another time, but...hopefully Mae would be back soon. Until she returned, all Nephenee could do was go forward, and that included going ahead with plans made more than a bit ago. Besides, her coltfriend had a birthday to celebrate, so she'd do her best to help him with that, even if this was the night before. The party would be tomorrow, but she'd stolen him away tonight for some time alone, away from prying eyes...

Well, maybe not that last one, since they got looked at anyway. Whispers about how cute it was or something floated about, but her mind was very much focused on her Knight. She'd surprised him with not only the fact that she'd pretty much tackled him to the ground in a hug when she'd met him outside the dojo, but the little black dress, tail wrap, and overall simple, but radiant look had gotten a great reaction too! Neph knew Morgan liked black and he liked leg and he liked how she wore her dresses, so she just combined them, then whisked him off for dinner and dancing and anything he really wanted to do -within reason.

Her heart still pounded from the physical exertion of the dancing, or perhaps just being this close to him kept it at such a rate, but she was rather happy right now, even if it was tinged with a little melancholy, and she couldn't help but be a little happier knowing he'd love his other gifts. Because apparently, a bag-of-holding and a custom lance weren't enough for her to give!

She liked spoiling friends, alright? Plus the main one was from the family, so.

Sneaking a kiss to his cheek, the Sentinel sighed happily. This night was quite wonderful.

"So, enjoyin' your birthday yet, my Knight?"

So Morgan did what any sensible guy would do, as he quickly rolled to his hooves:

He bonked her in the muzzle with his butt.

Wah, butt to the face!

The mare let out a startled whinny at that, quickly skittering back. "Y-ya ain't supposed to whack me with your rear!" Nephenee squeaked at him, knocked thoroughly out of even play-fight mode with that. That had been the very last thing she'd expected! Now she was all red in the face, wide-eyed, rather like a deer in headlights.

Morgan burst into giggles at her expression, which completely spoiled his follow-up pounce. "The look on your face!" he gasped, dropping back to the ground to wrap his forelegs around his head as he shook.

Nephenee was still wide-eyed as he flopped to the ground, giggling like a madman, but shook herself from it a bit after a moment. Still blushing fiercely, she stalked over to the stallion, and gave him a well-deserved bonk to the forehead with her own.

Yes, Morgan, she just headbutted you for butting her head.

"B-brat!"

He deserved that. He really did. But when she bonked him, he feigned a total collapse, dropping limply onto his back with all four legs splayed out every which way, and his head lolling with his tongue out.

Welp. Nephenee poked the flopped out Mage on the snout with her hoof, a smirk on her face. "Well, Ah finally done it. Finally knocked ya senseless."

A beat.

"Course, reckon there had to be some sense in that noggin to begin with..."

Seafoam waves shook as her head did, looming over him from above. "Guess Ah better revive ya..." and Morgan'd find himself kissed. Or as well as she could with his mouth open like that - she didn't know about Frenching, after all.

Which was as good a result as Morgan could have asked for; he surged back to 'life', wrapping his forelegs enthusiastically around her shoulders to haul her down. Heck, he'd even let that zinger pass if it meant more kissing.

That elicited an "Eep!" that was quickly smothered by kisses, and she made a point to pay him back for that...by smooching as hard as she could from her upside-down, hauled-down vantage point.

Someone should explain to Nephenee, one day, that that's not how you counter. Or maybe it is, when the 'opponent' is your boyfriend.

"W...woo-wee..." She finally managed, after that particular session was done, her mind spinning as she rolled next to the Mage, laying where they faced opposite directions. "W-whose birthday is...this, again?"

"Does it matter?" Morgan said, sighing with satisfaction and delight. "We're celebrating, after all!"

With his legs all splayed out, he was in no condition to rise, but also in no hurry to do so either.

"We...celebrate a lot, don't we?"

The question was coupled with a chuckle, her head lolling against his, echoing his contented noise with her own. "Not that Ah'm complainin' none. It's real nice..." Understatement of the year.

"Having a girlfriend like you is cause for constant celebration, because you're wonderful." And to think she used to be shy!

Given her head against his, Morgan could probably feel her cheeks heat up. Somehow, she still wasn't used to hearing that sort of praise...No one knew how.

"Heh...if ya...say that now," she said shyly, "wonder what you're...gonna say when ya get the last present...even if it's from the family as a whole." That's not sheepish giddiness in her voice, what are you talking about?

With exquisite slowness, Morgan tilted his head as he regarded her. "I dunno. What am I going to think about it?" Of the presents he could think of that would really surprise him, none of them were 'from the family as a whole'..

"Well, hopefully you'll like it, for one."

She thought to say something along the lines of 'somethin' to snuggle with an' pet an' keep ya company an' warm at night' but figured it might be too obvious a clue. And not the one it strongly hinted at, unaware to her.

"So, Ah'm gonna go get it where Ah hid it, an' when Ah come back, Ah'll let ya know so ya can close your eyes. An' no magick peekin'!" To seal the idea, she covered his eyes with her hooves. "Got it~?"

"How would you know?" Morgan asked, syrupy sweet -- as if he would disobey her for a second. He knew perfectly well how totally wrapped around her hoof he was.

"Ah know ya well enough. Ah could tell."

Alright, maybe not, but that was for her to know and him to...well, also know.

A hint of laughter in her voice, Nephenee withdrew her legs, smooching him on the snout before she turned to the door. "Be right back, alright?"

"How will I know?" Morgan said, putting a hoof over his eyes dramatically. "Maybe this is just you taking your chance to finally escape!"

A sharp bark of a laugh excaped from her. "Oh yeah, ya totally discovered my master plan; get my kisses an' dancin', leave ya waitin' forever for a present that'll never come while Ah slip out an' get haunted with Evil Spirits an' kiss all the fellas in the Decanter. An' maybe even some mares. CLEARLY Ah am an evil gal who'll do all that..."

Nephenee clicked her tongue, coming back over just long enough to bonk her muzzle against Morgan's. "Promise there'll be no runnin' off, dummy."

"Well, now I've got one hell of an image in my head, so go!" He nudged her right back with his own muzzle. "Get moving or I'll probably explode!"

"Alright, alright! Ya know, this is your fault for bein' so hard to leave." She said, before razzing him. "Now, you stay here and Ah'll be right back. Ah'll holler when ya gotta close your eyes."

Before anything could prolong things further, Nephenee tore herself away, slipping out quickly before closing the door. Morgan wouldn't have to wait overly long - she'd not had to go far to get the hidden present - before he heard her knock on the door. "Alright, close them. An' no magick peekin'!"

Obligingly, Morgan shut his eyes, then put a foreleg over them to prove absolutely that he wasn't cheating or peeking. Not that she could tell if he was magically doing so, she'd just have to trust him! (He wasn't.)

A poke of her snout into the room later, she carefully scooted in, talking under her breath so Morgan couldn't hear her. "Shh...don't make no noise, now...don't wanna spoil the surprise..."

After some shuffling noises, it was quiet for a moment, before Nephenee said, "Alright, ya can look now."

When Morgan peeked past his hooves, he'd be greeted with a very cute sight: his Sentinel sat in front of him, hooves wrapped around an adorable little Turkish Van with a tiny black collar, staring up at his new owner with one blue eye, one green eye. "Mwr?"

"Happy Birthday, darlin'!" The mare chirped, beaming expectantly. "Say hello to your Turkish Van kitty~"

"Eeeeee!" The noise escaped Morgan immediately and without any conscious direction as he reached out to scoop up the kitten. "Oh my god! Where did you find this little guy?!"

Ears up, tail up, eyes brilliant -- you clearly did good, Neph.

"Ah was doin' some shopin' up in Canterlot, an' heard 'bout these kitties that're known for swimmin' a bunch, like the ones ya told me 'bout. They're from a place called Turkey, too! But uh..."

She looked down at the pretty kitty, then chuckled, "Ah reckon the place called Turkey your way ain't run by actual turkeys. Ahem, but Ah saw a place full o'folks talkin' 'bout different cats 'round the world, an' thought 'bout ya when they got brought up! Ah know ya were thinkin' 'bout gettin' a kitty when ya got a place o'your own...so now that you're all settled, figured your birthday'd be the best time for it!"

Oh, seeing his reaction, the way his features lit up like the sun...it made her grin so hard, it felt like her face would stick like that. "He's even got some nice food an' some kitty toys an' a litter box. Got 'em all over in one o'the extra rooms."

If he had ever wondered where some keys had gotten off to for a bit...now he knew.

Morgan tucked the kitty into one foreleg, stroking its back with the other. Judging by the little feline's loud purrs, they had quickly formed a bond. "You thought of everything, huh? That's -- you're the best girlfriend a guy could ever have, you know that, right?"

If he wasn't holding a kitty, he would be kissing her silly. Maybe she had finally found a way to keep his hooves off her for ten seconds.
