When the scroll goes live, it shows Hayate, down near the fountain in the center of town. Today, instead of her fancy blue hat, she's wearing a boater with a yellow feather in the brim.

Her expression is...unusually serious.

"So. I'm Hayate. Most of you know me - I'm the Guardian Angel of Ponyville. In light of recent events - " she doesn't really need to say more than that, does she? " - I am officially putting this out there: I have the capability to instantly teach anyone the magic and fighting skills of my home world."

A pause. Those who know Hayate have probably noticed her tendency to shift her wings about restlessly whenever she isn't talking, but right now they are as still as stones at her side.

"These skills range from increased facility with weapons, to healing spells, to destructive magic. I am making them freely available to anyone that feels they need a method to defend themselves or others."

[ Kyouko sticks her spear in the ground and walks up to Hayate. ]

So. Ever since I got here, my powers've been nerfed. Need a boost. You can give me one?

"I can give you additional powers that will increase with effort and training. I can't return you to what your power level used to be, because I don't have that kind of power."

Hmm.

[ Kyouko thinks it over. ] Can ya give me basic unicorn magic?

Hayate considers.

"...given what I've seen of unicorn magic, I don't really have anything that can copy it; most of my magic is directly combat-related and doesn't have quite the broad range of non-combat applications unicorn stuff has."

Okay, so ya can give me a range o' stuff but not that big a range. Whatcha got?

"In terms of direct combat magic, Mages use fire, ice, and spells that affect physical capabilities. Sages have healing magic, bolts of dark lightning, and explosions. Minstrels have wind, ice, and healing spells. Luminaries have healing and wind magic, and Priests can heal and call upon the power of darkness."

[ Kyouko shrugs. ] I dunno. Some of it sounds useful but not that useful, and definitely not very repurposable. I've got the rest.

[ Okay then. ] What've other ponies asked ya for?

"Not many have taken me up on it, so far, but...I've bestowed the vocations of Sage, Priest, and Martial Artist."

Tell me what those entail. [ Only martial artist sounds straightforward. ]

"Martial Artists fight with fans, staves, hand claws, and their fists, favoring speed over defense. Sages are masters of both healing and offense, capable of more efficiently using spells than anyone else. Priests are masters of healing, learning spells to heal a single person, multiple people, and cure poison."

They're not the masters of talkin' ta people, then? Gettin' 'em ta believe 'em?

[ Her father having been a priest, that option jumps out at her. But... ] What does that mean, just "offensive spells"? It augments what I already got? Or I haveta learn new ones?

"That kind of priest is a calling, not a Vocation. And a Sage's offense is smiting things with dark lightning and wide-area explosions."

Well, now, tha's somethin' worth mentionin'. An' they can heal too? Not just themselves?

"Yeah - single target and full-party heals, along with Kazing."

I don't know what that is. But the rest sounds pretty all right.

"Kazing brings the dead back to life."

Pause.

"...I'm not sure if it would work here in Equestria, though."

No.

[ Flatly. ]

'm not usin'... wait.

[ She takes out a blue soul gem and considers it briefly before putting it away. ]

Yeah. Okay. Gimme that one.

As Hayate nods in acceptance, her wings spread wide and her eyes start to glow.

"Kyouko has chosen to walk the path of the Sage!"

Bright light shines down on the pegasus as triumphant music fills the air. The glow in Hayate's eyes fades out and her voice drops to a whisper.

"May you be blessed in your new Vocation."

Kyouko looks up nonchalantly at the light and music. Then she looks back at Hayate when the other pony's done.

"So tha's it? I can blow stuff up now?" She aims her hoof in a random direction and concentrates.

If Kyouko concentrates enough, the name of the spells she can cast will whisper themselves in her ear - Heal and Zam. Zam, of course, is a mass of darkness made electricity - a bullet of dark lightning, as it were.

Hayate will just watch, for now.

She hears the whispers, and attempts one of the words. "ZAM!"

Fairly straightforward, but not everything needs to be complicated. A bolt of black lightning blasts from her hands, and water erupts out of the fountain. It continues in a chain to a nearby tree, which bursts into flame instantly and becomes a charred wreck.

"Uh." Oops? "... Can I heal that?"

Hayate considers the tree.

"...no. Not yet. Hold on a second..."

Taking off, she flies in circles around the tree, trailing fog, which she quickly pushes together into a small cloud. Landing, she looks up at it, nods, and casts a spell.

"Right as Rain!"

Glowing rain pours down on the tree, putting out the fire and restoring it to health.

... Oh, Kyouko should probably have remembered about the rain. Except, you know. Being a weather pony hasn't really factored into her pegasus-ness much yet.

"So how come ya can do that, huh?" Regarding the spell. "If yer not a Sage, what are ya?"

"Right as Rain is one of the intermediate Sage skills, actually; I've just found the regeneration effect sticks around longer if you use it on an actual cloud."

Pause.

"And it's like I've said before - I'm Ponyville's Guardian Angel."

"Tha's a dime a dozen here." But she's interested. "So can ya, like, do all of it?"
