[Tails is outside, but he's got a determined expression on his face.]

Guys, I know things look grim and that it seems hopeless. But the moment we start giving up, the Pale Pony wins.

Yes we don't have the means to beat her and yes she's got several of our loved ones in there, but you know what? I don't think the ones trapped in there would want us to sit around all miserable and waiting for the Pale Pony to take us too.

Instead we should keep going and work harder to find a way to save everyone and beat her. Even if takes many more months to do so, I think we can find a solution of some sort. We can do this! We can win! We just have to keep trying. If we work together somehow, everything will turn out okay.

I realize there will be some ponies that will accuse me of being naive or trying to spread false hope, but my only response to that is this:

You have two choices. Either continue to wallow in self-pity or you can pick yourself up and deal with it. Quit trying to bring everyone else down. You're not helping yourself or any of us.

[He takes a deep breath to calm himself down.]

Sorry guys, but I'm just getting tired of ponies being such negative nancys. I don't usually make prep-talks, but I hope that helps. At least a little.

I feel it prudent to add from my own personal experience that even though we don't possess the means now, it says nothing of the future. In Exsilium, we were faced with a corrupt empire that ruled the entire planet and had very few resources of our own. Yet through determination and ingenuity, our cause was still able to emerge victorious.

I have no doubt that there is similar potential here.

...I may be one of those "Negative Nancy" ponies you speak of, yet nonetheless, I am proud of you, Miles.

Y'know, yelling at sad people and calling them names isn't really super-good for cheering them up...

Picking yourself up and dealing with it isn't always as simple as it sounds.

I'm not gonna repeat what Surprise and Pinkie were pointing out, because they did it better and I know you meant well.

I'm just gonna add that it's very, VERY hard when so much horrible stuff is going down to remember that not EVERYTHING is horrible. It's important not to have false hope, to realize the odds are long and the going is getting weird. But it's just as important to have HOPE, to figure out how to cheat the odds even if the house always wins.

You're right that we need to keep fighting and that the situation is far from hopeless. It's just that - 'get over it' isn't the same thing as a reminder. You get a lot farther by pointing out that crap sucks, and then helping them figure out what to do about it. Telling them that the problems aren't in their head and problems can be solved.

Buck I wish I got the Anchor crosstraining.
