5th Breakfast; Assignment 1, Cutie Marks [visual]

Hello! If any of you ponies could spare a moment to help me with something it would be much appreciated.

I have been attending lessons at the local school, and Miss Cherilee has asked us to talk to other ponies about their cutie marks. These are the questions.

[They appear in writing under his visual message.]

1. What does your cutie mark look like?
2. How or when did you receive your cutie mark?
3. What does your cutie mark represent?

[Pippin blinks then slowly frowns a little]

I also must write about my own experience since I have a mark. Honestly though, I am not sure what it truly means. It's a bird, but I have no special talents relating to birds. Can you help me? I would like to find an answer to this, not only for my work, but so I can tell a certain filly she can no longer compare me to a "blank flank."

[He moves the scroll to make sure his mark is captured in the visual.]

I wish I could see it! ...Or perhaps I should not. If it is only to be used in troubled times I'd rather it not come to that.

A nod as she tucks the Magicite back into her cloak.

"Plus, it requires...the Esper to die."

[tookalevelinbadass]

"That's not very happy at all. Especially if the Esper is friendly." Pippin frowns at the thought. "It is an impressive cutie mark though! Clearly you and the stone are very important."

[terraburning]

"He was...very friendly to me, at least."

Long pause as she considers that.

"But he...was my father, so..."

...so by 'memento of her father' she actually meant that was his corpse.

Pippin pauses in alarm. He covers his mouth with a hoof for a moment then speaks again, "I'm sorry. I did not realize. The Esper was your very own father?"

[terraburning]

A nod.

"His name is...Maduin."

'Is'. That's...an odd choice of words.

"Maduin... is really that stone now?" All the stories he had heard of creatures turning to stone resulted in something like a statue, easy to recognize. He didn't want to even try to imagine his own father turning into a rock.

[terraburning]

"Yes. This...is what all Espers become, in the end."

[tookalevelinbadass]

"It happens when they pass away? I-I hope it's not something that happens when an Esper is simply walking down a road minding their business. They still get to spend their fair share of time walking free, right?" Please tell him it's not that tragic.

[terraburning]

"Father...chose this. It was...better than what he was...forced to endure."

...oh, so he didn't randomly drop dead; he killed himself. That's...fine?

"I see. A sad fate it is." Pippin hangs his head. He blinks as a worrisome thought occurs to him. "Are-Are you an Esper too, like your father?"

[terraburning]

"Only...half. My mother...was a human."

[tookalevelinbadass]

"Then- Then you can escape the fate that Espers face, right?"

[terraburning]

Terra stops for a few moments to actually consider that.

"I...don't know. I am...the only half-Esper ever born."

[tookalevelinbadass]

Pippin tries to smile. "Then the risk is halved. And in the meantime, one must live to their fullest."

[terraburning]

A very serious nod.

"Yes. I will...do my best."

[tookalevelinbadass]

"Do you enjoy song and dance? Or drink and food?" Pippin suggests.

[terraburning]

Terra's brow furrows a bit.

"Song...? Dance...?"

[tookalevelinbadass]

"Yes! Song and dance!" Pippin nods. It hits him after a pause that she seems confused. "Surely you know what I speak of!"

[terraburning]

An uncertain nod.

"I've...seen them. I...don't know...how they...work."

Pippin's eyes go wide. "You've never tried it for yourself?! This must be remedied! Why I'll teach you to sing and dance myself, if you're willing."

[terraburning]

...hmm.

"You must be...very busy, though. I...wouldn't want...to waste your...time."

any interest in making a log for dancing/singing lessons?

"Not at all! Let's arrange a meeting and see to it that this happens," he insists.
