Er... (Sorry) [Visual]

[Chie's in front of the video again, except her hooves are shuffling and she's having trouble looking directly into the camera. Her face is flushed and she's sweating profusely.]

So... ["To be honest, this is really hard. I'm not very good at admitting my mistakes... and talking in front of people I don't know actually makes me really shy! But this is important. I know that I've been worrying everybody, especially my friends. "]

[She takes a deep breath, making a small gesture with her hoof.]

Um... ["Remember that thing that happened a few weeks ago? I've been thinking about it and I just feel terrible for responding the way I did. I mean it wasn't entirely my fault and all, but I didn't have to respond to it as badly as I did."]

And... ["...this place seems pretty cool when it's not in the middle of a world-wide crisis? There are some people here that are really nice and I would hate for them to get the wrong idea."]

Yeah... ["That's all I want to say, really."]

[She takes a deep breath and motions to turn off her scroll. At least that is over wit-]

Oh! ["Oh!"] Does anybody here like kung fu movies?

Hell yeah. Early Jackie Chan movies rule.

Jackie Chan trained primarily in Hapkido! Shaolin kung-fu was one of his other focuses, admittedly, but still!

Okay?

Like that's cool and all, but genre wise his movies are still kung fu movies. Like what he practices might not be entirely kung fu, but the movies themselves refer to a genre. It's like why Ong-Bak is considered a kung fu movie and shit even though it's Muay Thai or whatever the hell it is.

Like next you'll try telling me Bruce Lee wasn't Kung fu or something.

Bruce Lee invented the absolutely amazing martial arts philosophy of Jeet Kune Do! This is why I'm taking a stand against that categorization! 'Kung fu' movies is a term far too limited!

Dude are you serious? You can't just up and change a 30-40 year old genre title. Like what would you even do to 'fix' it?

I'm still working on that! I'd call it martial arts movies, but that risks getting conflated with wuxia!

[personal profile] caneattheseapples 2014-10-10 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Well I kind of got some news for you dude. "Martial arts" movies is a term already used. It's kind of interchangeable with kung fu movies.

Whizza-what? The hell is that you just said?

Whoa, whoa. Hold on. You lose all credibility if you don't know what wuxia is. You ever seen, say, a film with a flying swordsman? Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon being the most famous of them in the West?

[personal profile] caneattheseapples 2014-10-10 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I lose all credibility for what, asshole? Liking movies? All I said was that I liked early Jackie Chan movies and you had a shitfit about it because you don't like the name of the genre they fit in or some crap.

Yeah I saw it. It was alright.

That's wuxia. It's sort of like its own genre. Kind of like the western of the Eastern-influenced cinema.

Whoa whoa wait, seriously? That kind of sounds like a rumor since that's some too perfect to be true shit, but I could believe it. I mean like Chuck Norris had one of his first screen appearances with Bruce kicking the crap out of him.

No shit? Makes more sense than thinking his career started with Cannonball Run, that's for sure.

That one? Not really a kung fu movie.

Damn you must breathe this stuff too. I mean I only know basic crap about it but I'm pretty much happy to watch any movie with people getting put through serious beat downs.

It's also probably the closest to life thing in those movies too. Whoever wants something more usually gets it. And most of the time it's the right person.

I kind of think it's just how we're wired. It's pretty rare when you meet someone who's such an asshole they just care about number one above everything else.

And when you do meet them, they usually don't get away with whatever shot they're trying to pull.
