experiment 2: visual
[Doc appears on the scroll very casually. He's trying to play chess with a rather fluffy puppy, a Yorkie with a bow in her hair.]
Yes, yes, Miss Curie, excellent work! Now some positive reinforcement for your training---have at it!
[He tosses her a treat, which she catches expertly. He smiles---then stares wide-eyed at the glowing scroll.}
I've activated this blasted scroll too early again. My apologies for the mundane display, but I was hoping to address everyone this morning, so I hope it won't trouble you if I continue. I've been discussing the matter with my current companion, but as she is a canine and I have yet to invent a speech translator, as you can imagine our conversations haven't been as illuminating as I would hope.
[He scribbles a note to himself on a nearby paper. Looks like he'll be trying to invent that translator---and he's smiling when he looks back, sounding as casual as he can.]
I've lived a relatively long life, and as we all have, I've made mistakes. And lately, as I'm prone to do, I've been pondering a rather pointless hypothetical scenario: if you had the opportunity to alter your past, would you take that risk?

[Visual]
[Which isn't bad at all really, even if it was a little weird. Marty's just glad the she really likes him.]
[Visual]
Curie! Oh---oh that's right. We're not all that spatially distant anymore, are we?
[Visual]
[He says as he makes zero effort to stop her.]
No, it would be hard to now that Curie would get lonely without me.
[Visual]
[Headshake.]
We couldn't have her at a better time. There's so much to do and so little time.
[For once in his life. Yeah...maybe he's a little serious.]
[Visual]
So what's the plan for today then?
[Visual]
After that, there are matters I need to research.
[Visual]
Research for what?
[Please don't let it be something dangerous again.]
[action because spies]
I believe I may need to travel in time if I'm going to help solve this crisis. It would only be an option of last resort, of course...but as the groups reported, the Calice problem is likely unsolvable without knowing exactly what brought her to this point.
There may be a vital clue in the past that was never recorded in the history books.
[action the best spies]
Well... if you have to.
[But his face says "I really don't want you to".]

[He shudders. Oh no, Marty's hurting.]
When I heard about what happened to Ms. Fluttershy...I wondered if that could have been you if I hadn't elected to stay behind. I'm glad I didn't risk us then, but I wonder if the past might be a better way. I'd need to do far more research before even considering takeoff, of course.
But as she grows more powerful, I worry she'll consume more and more of us.
no subject
I guess, but what if she tries to hurt you too? I don't know if I...
[He trails off, unsure if he even wants to continue this conversation.]
no subject
...could allow me to die once more? Or be irreversibly corrupted as Ms. Twilight Sparkle was?
no subject
[It's impossible to tell if he was trying to make a joke but didn't have his heart into it or if he was genuinely lamenting about how well Doc knows about him.]
no subject
[He finally starts to understand. He's quiet for a moment, head bowed.]
I'm sorry. Sometimes I get entirely too wrapped up in grand purpose and great destiny, egoism in other words...that I forget what's most important to me.
[And that's you, McFly. He gives Marty a weak little smile.]
