[He tosses her a treat, which she catches expertly. He smiles---then stares wide-eyed at the glowing scroll.}

I've activated this blasted scroll too early again. My apologies for the mundane display, but I was hoping to address everyone this morning, so I hope it won't trouble you if I continue. I've been discussing the matter with my current companion, but as she is a canine and I have yet to invent a speech translator, as you can imagine our conversations haven't been as illuminating as I would hope.

[He scribbles a note to himself on a nearby paper. Looks like he'll be trying to invent that translator---and he's smiling when he looks back, sounding as casual as he can.]

I've lived a relatively long life, and as we all have, I've made mistakes. And lately, as I'm prone to do, I've been pondering a rather pointless hypothetical scenario: if you had the opportunity to alter your past, would you take that risk?

[The one who always went on and on about comic books and superheroes. Harvey didn't know him very well, had almost tried to avoid him...it reminded him too much of Linkara.]

He went to the future for a little bit once, but I don't think he could do it regularly. Yeah, no - no, he couldn't, 'cause he'd been able to back home and he complained about it sometimes.

...I'd be more interested in the past, but perhaps a vision of the future would be sobering.

Or possibly entirely demoralizing, given what we're seeing around us in the present.

It was only a week or so. Ain't sure it'd be a good idea to go much farther.

[God only knows what could happen around here, really.]

What're you lookin' to do in the past?

Hypothetically, of course, it's far too soon to think about doing. I'd be more interested in seeing, to fill in the gaps of our knowledge about the present situation. Then, ideally, we could put forth an effective plan in the present.

That'd be pretty helpful, yeah. Save folks a lotta trips up to Stalliongrad.

The only difficulty is that I believe our host is interested too.

Ah, she's got her hooves in everything. She didn't start off in this world, though, so if she wanted to go back she might have to go the same way we would.

Ah, then we'd have to cross dimensions as well. Tricky business, but likely not impossible.

Oh, sure. We've got a ship back home that can do that.

Have you traveled on one, then? Anything of interest?

We ain't gone to any alternate universes ourselves yet. We kinda took it from a guy who came to take over our dimension, so...we're still workin' out the controls, I guess.

I've been sucked into a few other universes before this - nothin' I did on purpose, it was kinda like this mess - and laws ain't always the same between 'em. I wouldn't assume anything that worked back home will work here too.
