What do you do if it turns out that you've been livin' a lie all your life? Not, like, in the Mayfield sense, but... what if you thought you were a hero and you turned out to only be hurtin' people, or...

Hey. Overlord. I wanted to apologize for not believing you and assuming you were the one who let Grand Lord Suckface out of Tartarus. Seemed like the sort of thing you'd do in order to get his power for your own, or t'create a threat so that you had your own personal army at your beck and call.

I was wrong. In order to make it up to you... well, I ain't about to become your minion or suck up to you, but if you wanna take Rarity someplace fancy sometime, just lemme know and I'll work out all the bullcrap with getting you some spots. Your drinks are covered for the next month if you want to come down to the Decanter, too.

Aren't we all dying sooner or later? I mean, in the neighilistic sense.

Hah, yes, though there are a few people I know who may never die. But in this case you may be onto something with why we are being brought here.

Yeah, back home gettin' the wings and horn meant you weren't really gonna go past middle-age, physically, no matter how many thousands of years passed. And if you're smart enough to keep from gettin' gutted...

But... I think that might tie into it, too.

Not an idea, just a theory. We've already got reports that Cálice is a corrupted alternate-reality version of Twilight Sparkle.

Somethin' tells me that the entire reason she went twisted is because...well.

She wasn't always an alicorn. She wasn't born into it like the Sisters in my world - that is, Celestia and Luna - were. Plus, she's th'princess of Friendship.

My gut's tellin' me that all of this, the posing as a chooser of th'slain, trappin' other ponies, focusin' on people who've already dealt with death or have crap lives...

I think part of her might be tryin' to learn how t'cheat death. Not for her sake, but for the other Element Bearers. Maybe all of Equestria.

That...Huh. Alright. I see the logic in that. The realization that everyone you care about will die, where you live on, that happened to someone I ... knew. It drove him insane.

And Cálice doesn't seem like the most even-headed folk around.

Princess of Friendship....which means she was emotionally reliant and close to her friends, that's what I'm getting from it. And for someone so interconnected to people on a deep and personal level, well, you wouldn't have to be off kilter to get spun off the deep-end with that.

Though I do find it interesting what she's doing with it. Unlike the person I knew, who tried to prepare himself for eventual loss and ended up despairing, Calice is finding ways to never have to experience it.

When you've got the powers of a god, I figure "rewrite reality" is a pretty valid option.

Or, in this case, "become a soul jar for multiple universes".

Indeed. But that's probably working against her. She knows she has that power, but she's probably frantic thinking that she can do something with that amount. The more power, the more belief that anything is possible with it if only you try hard enough.
