Oh, look, it's Hayate. The view from the scroll really only shows her face, almost as if she's deliberately hiding the rest of her body.
"So, uh....hi! Hello, Ponyville, it's great to be seeing you all again, after Tirek and all the...unpleasantness that followed after his defeat and all...You'll note that I didn't get power drained! Couldn't...he couldn't manage that, heh."
An awkward pause, strangely not accompanied by the sound of rustling feathers.
"No, uh, he...he kind of broke both my wings, instead. It'll...it'll be a while before I can fly again."
Hayate moves her scroll out enough to reveal that both her wings are indeed broken.
"...And then, you know, I got turned into something I'm not, not anymore, and...I dunno! I didn't really like being human, because I'm a pony! I'm supposed to be a pony, right?"
Hayate sags a little, even her ears drooping.
"And it's like...all this has been really hard on me, and...I dunno. Anybody feel like having a chat?"

"...her name was Marion. It was...she had been born with some kind of...wasting sickness. Near the end, as far as I've been able to tell...she just stopped wanting to live."
Hayate spends a few seconds breathing slowly and steadily before continuing.
"There was a lot of strange magic wrapped up in the entire thing, and I'm the only one who knows she's dead. I used to bring flowers to her grave."

Bertie's known it, of course, he's talked about God with Hayate briefly, seen her do good works, but there are somethings that just strike at the core of a chap, and that's one of them. He leans forward to wrap her in another hug. "Nephenee put up some sort of shrine for ponies - people - who'd passed that she knew, and others, too. I don't suppose you could put something up for Ms. Marion? That way you could still bring her flowers."

"I...I think I might do that, yeah."

"And I do like picking out flowers. Do you know if she's got any favorites?"

Hayate's voice is a little shaky - she's so happy right now it almost feels like she's about to start crying.

But he is glad to see her glad, particularly when there's something easy she can still do to keep feeling like a regular sort of guardian angel. What else do they do? "Righto! We could stop out by the pond sometime to see what's blooming, if you'd like. I think that ought to be just about the ticket to get us a dozen colors or so.
"I wonder, are there any other things you usually do about town? I'm feeling a bit lost myself, these days." He offers a rueful shrug. "At least until Harvey calls on me again. I... don't suppose you'd like a deputy guardian angel or some such. I'd like to learn if I can."

Hayate brightens up almost immediately at this offer.
"Of course! I'll...I'll show you everything I can!"
Shall we fade to black and maybe start up another log with guardian angel practice?
"First, though, we've got a lot of tea to drink." He motions to the remaining cups. "I do hope you're thirsty, my dear!."
Yes!
"I think I can manage that, yeah."
