Accidental Activation [Visual]

It seems like Mako's scroll has accidentally been unrolled at some point while she was attending to her morning rituals - she seems completely unaware that her form and voice are being broadcast. Currently, she appears to be chatting happily with Hampyre as she prepares a quick breakfast for Etranger.

"-pass me the milk, will you?"

As she turns around to receive a bottle of milk from the boar, her back - free of her normal black vest - can be clearly seen. There's a pair of long, jagged scars running down it, parallel to each other and clearly the claw marks of some massive creature. She continues speaking as she trots over to a small basket in the corner of the room in which Etranger is curled up, a small meerkat perched on top of her.

"So, Hampyre, I was thinking - Etranger's three now, she's probably old enough to attend school, right? I've been planning on moving out of the commune once winter's over, but do you think we should look into getting an actual house? It might be hard to get Etranger an education if we go back to living on the riverbank..."

...maybe someone should tell her the scroll's broadcasting?

At the sound of Yayoi's voice, Mako goes completely still for a few brief seconds before scrabbling to cover her back with her hooves as she whips around to face the scroll.

"H-hello there!"

Sorry...I heard your voice and wasn't sure what was going on. I didn't mean to interrupt.

[etranger]

Since Mako is both trying to sit down and cover her back up, the predictable thing happens - she falls flat on her face.

"...um. Did you...see?"

I...I did. I didn't want to pry. That's why I didn't say anything.

Why not remain at that commune? It would help teach your daughter the value of hard work, while at the same time saving you a deal of money.

Besides, were you to depart there, I would have no reason to give the commune any thought. Mr. Wooster visits me in my office if he needs my assistance.

[What he's saying is that without someone worthwhile there, it would be an awful shame if it burned down or something.]

Mako takes a second to glance at the scroll and some tension flows out of her when she doesn't see Hain's face - that's good, it's audio only.

"It's mostly that the space is insufficient now that I have my whole team with me - Aeris has taken to sleeping in the fields, for example. If I did stay here, I'd probably have to build a separate cottage for all of us. But you do have a point about the value of hard work..."

"It's... a commune. Why would that make any difference? You could build a larger loft for your companions. Besides; your roc makes for a good watchbird. I think it's perturbed at my presence, which one could argue means it's doing its job correctly." Hain knew Andrew would certainly appreciate being warned when the changeling was skulking around the commune.

[etranger]

Mako's voice turns considering as she muses to herself.

"...hm. Building materials, horsepower, various other expenses...hold on a second, please..."

There's the sound of something being written down as Mako goes over the necessary steps.

"...ah, you're right. It'd take me about the same amount of money to build something here from scratch as it would to buy or rent something in the town proper..."

"In addition, it would be a one-time expenditure, as opposed to a monthly lease contract. It simply involves a little hard work; something you've never struck me as adverse to."

Hain nods his head, slowly. "Of course, that's only if your sole reason for leaving is financial. If you find yourself displeased with the commune, then it is entirely your choice to act on that."

Ah... Excuse me? I think you've left your com... your scroll turned on.

[He didn't mean to eavesdrop, but he'd been trying to figure out the scroll again, and it took him a moment to realize that it wasn't an intentional broadcast.]

[etranger]

Mako's eyes go very wide as she slo-o-o-owly looks over to her scroll. When she replies, it's in a very stilted voice.

"Oh. It appears I have."

Now, please excuse her as she panics and dives out of sight of the scroll, accompanied by the sound of rustling fabric. When she reappears, she's wrapped herself in a blanket with her scars safely hidden.

"T-thank you for informing me!"

Skyfire makes no comment on her scars, not understanding what the issue is but not bringing it up either.

"... Your welcome... Ah... I suppose I should shut this off now..." She's not going to want to a complete stranger, right?

He sighs. He's used to technology, not magic. "If I can figure out how..."

[etranger]

"Usually you just, ah, roll it up...but, um...you only got here recently, right? Has anyone told you what dragons need in their diets yet?"

This is Mako's expression of gratitude for Skyfire not mentioning anything.

"Oh. I was looking for an 'off' command. Thank you, that makes things a little easier." He sighs and nods, but looks a little unsure.

"I have, although I'm not sure where to acquire them. It's surprisingly normal for me, but at home I would just dig another tunnel in a mountain, here though..."

[ponycure_dream]

Nozomi took notice of what was being shown, a little curious of it all, before finally speaking up.

"U-um, Mako?"

Mako freezes, slowly turning around to face the scroll. When she sees Nozomi's face, she scrambles desperately for the scroll and switches it to private.

"...um, hi?"

Nozomi's head tilts a bit, still curious about things.

"Um... Ah... Where do I start? You... Wanna talk about your plans?"

Feeling better? A little. Not to the point where she's gonna pry just yet over that scar.

[etranger]

Mako shifts a little.

"I've finally gotten Etranger to the point where she can read and doesn't lapse back into Pokespeak when she talks, so I thought sending her to school might be a good idea. And, well...I originally came to the commune just to wait out the winter; I'm...not really used to sleeping in beds anymore."

[ponycure_dream]

"Oh, wow! That's cool!" Nozomi isn't going to say much about her own education, she of an underachiever. "Though, if you're looking for a place to stay, you're welcome to stay at my shop."

She looked away a bit. "It's been a tad lonely. I haven't had the courage to head back and face Ako or Ambrosia."

[tsunpony]

"Hey Mako... don't need to say this but uh... your back. What?"

[etranger]

Mako freezes in place, her mane frazzling, before turning to look at the scroll.

"Um...you, uh...saw?"

[tsunpony]

"Kinda hard to miss. You don't have to talk about it though, even though it doesn't look recent."

Ako sighed as she settled down on her side. "I'm not going anywhere though if you want to talk about it."

[etranger]

"...they're two years old. I was...incautious on a research trip."

[tsunpony]

"Ah, that kind of thing. I'm sorry about that."
