[Flare pulls up her scroll, expression a bit more steeled than it has been in a while. Whatever she's discussing, it seems serious.]

So. By now, it should be obvious that the crap with that Mirror Celestia ain't the last of the troubles we got. I dunno who the buck this "Zedd" guy is, aside from a flaming load of manure, but I know we got enough fighters - native and newpony alike - that he doesn't have any more of a chance than Chrysalis did. Or Mirror Celestia did.

That's not good enough, though. There were ponies hurt in those fights, and one even killed, if th'news wasn't lyin' about that. It could happen again here. Will happen again here if we let it.

So we can't let it.

I'm not a front-liner; my talents are best put to use on the defensive. I'm issuing a call to arms - we need an evac plan here for the noncombatants, a place where they KNOW they can go to be safe in case of something tryin' to wreck the town. Ideally we'd have something like that in all the cities in Equestria, but most of 'em don't have to worry about the added population that Ponyville does so any Celestia-approved plans there'll likely still work.

[Realizing she's digressing, she shakes her head and sighs, collecting her thoughts before continuing on.]

Problem is, we need somewhere big. We had to split forces between the library and the night market's dojo when that mirror thing went down, so we need to figure out a way to either make something bigger, or there needs to be more ponies like me able and willing to keep the civvies safe.

Any thoughts, citizens of Ponyville?

[Of course, the expression she wears makes it clear that it was less a request and more a rallying call.]

The face on the scroll belongs to an eagle slightly larger than Celestia, peering in through what appears to be the window of a building.

It continues to stare at the scroll for several long minutes.

Because she really, really didn't need a reminder of her childhood staring her in the face like that.

There's the sound of hooves against the floor as Mako trots into view.

"...Sigilyph, the scroll can't carry telepathic communication, and I think half the commune just heard your offer. Please stop beaming suggestions into everyone's heads."

The eagle looks a little abashed at that before retreating back to the roof as Mako looks into the scroll.

"Since you didn't hear that, Sigilyph was volunteering to help dig out underground bunkers with her telekinesis."

...Telekinetic.

The thing is... your... I... ghhr.

[PARDON FLARE A MOMENT, MAKO. She needs to unfrazzle her brain. A few sighs and personal psych-ups and she can find herself actually forming sentences again.]

Let Sigilyph know that while the offer is appreciated, I wanna get all the possible options before committing.

Plus there's the issue of us maybe getting more earthquakes like we got during the last Running of the Leaves.

I'm behind this idea, the less civies that get caught in the crossfire the better. If we could get something large enough, like an underground bunker, that wasn't readily visible...

[A thought.]

There's the apple orchards, they have a lot of space. Maybe we could talk with some of the owners about converting some of that space into something usable. Build something underground and use the orchard for camouflage. Lot of trees to give extra cover.

Hey, hold on! We don't have to build on from scratch.

[That grin. It is an idea.]

We already have a ready made underground bunker- it just needs some reinforcement.

The town sewers, of course.

...You know what goes through the sewers, right?

Well, of course, if your sewerage system happens to be a combined system. Even so, having lived in them most of my life, there are ways to mitigate the flow to make dry areas for everypony to inhabit if the need arises. If parts of the sewers haven't already been abandoned or holed up, and I know of at least one place like that in Ponyville's sewage tunnels.

There are other advantages. The walls can be reinforced to withstand attacks. And you wouldn't be out in the open where the enemy can see you building it.

[Crmsn stops mid vowel and closes his mouth staring at the turtle for a moment...it wasn't the suggestion to use the sewers...it was more the actual...well-]

Nope, didn't have a clue. I dunno how everyone would feel about it, but I'm sure if we got some dry areas and cleaned them up and added some reinforcements they'd be perfect!

Exactly! Plus, we can add extra things to make it difficult for anyone to get through if they even thought to invade the sewers!

It's not a half bad plan. And it'd be easier to convert a portion of it into a bunker than creating a new one, and it'd be easy to access for other ponies. It'd be faster for them to get to, too, I imagine.

Yeah. Its something I did back home, so it wouldn't be too hard to set out what needs to be done. And with the ponies and magic put in it could get knocked out in a day.

...Maybe even a half-day is somepony manages to start a sing-along with it.

[At this, he paused.]

Have you ever noticed that singing seems to motivate us to get stuff done faster?

Flare, for something that is in no way related to our current predicament, you could help me get the word out about the importance of recycling.

I've found that a lot of ponies here don't seem to know how to recycle, which is a real shame. I mean, there's lots of materials ponies throw away that could be put to good use, like:

-Old glass bottles
-Hazardous liquids that we could properly dispose of
-Old clothes

and if you'd like, I could help teach ponies around these parts on how to put them to good use.

Almost like Equestria itself's intentionally trying to round up a defense force.

Probably. I wouldn't be the one t'make it, though. I'm no leader; I can't even convince Dante to get off his fat kiester half the time to keep an eye on the local timber wolf population.

I'd believe it. Unfortunately, motivation has never been his strong suit.

[Though the fact that he hasn't been keeping an eye on it does give Vergil a bit to question. Slacker tendencies aside, Dante is nothing if not a hero, so the idea that he would be uninterested in helping with something like that could mean one of two things -- either he didn't foresee it being as much of a problem as it's become, or there's something about the whole thing that gives his brother enough pause to not act until it's absolutely necessary.]

Should you find yourself in need of someone to lead the front line, I'll volunteer. Unless, of course, you need all the dragons you can to help evacuate.

Yeah, him. Didn't really look too long, I've heard that same old hackeneyed tyrant speech at least three times since I've shown up here.

What we need is a properly shielded safehouse. The library and dojo were all well and good, but they're only ordinary buildings. Well, an ordinary building and a tree full of books.

Not the most flammable thing I've ever heard of, but it comes close.

What exactly would "proper shielding" in this case be, though? Does it need to withstand the Princesses? Something worse? If so, what point do we draw the line for "best we can do"?

I'd assume magical shielding would be a start, though it might be possible to rig up something more like a force field if we had the right components and a big enough power source. Failing that, an underground bunker might help.

Healers. Do we have healers?

I could act as mobile artillery, I can even create battlements out of force, but Dawn and Dusk we will need healers.
