[ She rubs her eyes. ] Okay, I know saying “watch for something unusual” doesn’t really… work, around here. Look, it’s just that there’s a witch in the area, okay? We think its headquarters is the chair shop in the Night Market but we haven’t ever seen her.

And there’s only so much patrolling I can do at night, so… if yer on the Night Market, especially.

Important like what exactly? Do ya want a destructive force loose in Ponyville?

We have roughly a hundred of those loose at the moment, last I checked.

If ya must know, I don't think she'll destroy Ponyville. She's just been a nuisance. I'm just worried about her is all.

[ Looks away, and picks up an apple to bite into. ]

It sounds like this issue goes deeper than simple worry. Nonetheless, I shall keep an eye out. what sort of information do you have?

Witches are cosmic horror types. They affect yer mood. This one's a prankster, and has a bunch of little helpers, so look for those.

[weekwizard]

It would seem our definitions of 'witch' differ, in that case. I am familiar with the type, however. Should you need something, contact the miko in the shrine overlooking the town. Her job is to deal with characters like that, though her methods are rather violent.

It doesn't seem to mean the same thing anywhere. It's just a word.

Patchouli Knowledge, Librarian of the Scarlet Devil Mansion. I could be classified as a 'witch' myself in some circles, though I prefer the term 'wizard' or 'mage'.

Yer not a witch.

... Not one of these, anyway, to my knowledge. Unless yer makin' people die and stuff.

Too much hassle. I prefer to stick to my research.

Exactly. Not like it helps ya, anyway. But witches en't rational.

[ Also, the idea of killing people randomly just makes Kyouko sick to her stomach. ]

Very similar to some youkai I know, in that case.

[Gensokyo is filled to the brim with eldrich horrors. Patchy's seen this song and dance before.]

Call it what ya want. I'm a magical girl and there's ponies here who call themselves that an' definitely aren't what I am.

To be fair, that does sound like a rather broad term.

Well, yeah, I guess here there's plenty o' female unicorns who have magic. But there's girls who've gained particular sets of powers, ya know? The Precures and the Sailors. An' those're from back home, they didn't all get 'em here. So... I guess that's how I'd define it.

But there's not... I dunno if there's a catch ta these other powersets. I certainly don't know 'em. So that's different.

From what I recall from the Precure I knew, the powers come with an obligation to play the role of the hero against whatever myriad threats come to bother that world.

[ She snorts. ] Some catch. Nah, tha's more like... I dunno, a charge. We got instructions an' if we don't follow 'em, we die or worse.

[weekwizard]

How is the enforcement carried out, if I may ask? Magically, or by an external party?

[kuukai]

[ Kyouko hesitates. ] Used ta think it was just magic. [ She thrusts out her soul gem. ] We haveta take care of this. But I think the system may have been stacked against us from the beginning.

[ She shrugs. ] Doesn't matter now. Our fault for gettin' into it.

[weekwizard]

'Your fault'? From the way you phrase it, it sounds as if you have entered a devil's contract.

[kuukai]

We wished for somethin' and we got it, along with power. So yeah, tha's exactly what it is.

[weekwizard]

Then I do not need to tell you how much of a fool you are.
