Umm... hi. Sorry to bother anyone, but... I just got here. I'm not exactly new to Equestria, but it's been quite a while since I've been here. Plus it looks like Equestria, but I know a thing or two about alternate worlds. So... I guess I just want to ask what exactly this Equestria is the one I think that it is and why I may have been brought here.

I'd appreciate an answer... though you don't have to give me one, I guess. I'll figure it out somehow. But if anyone... I mean anypony could help me, then I'd... I'd really appreciate it. So... thank you. That's all.

Oh I don't doubt it, I've been friends with Pinkie and her friends for a while now so... I'm more than happy to take up anything that she offers to me.

I hear you and Pinkie are attending an academy? Along with Flash Sentry?

(It's so strange to her, hearing Amber Rioja's voice... and hearing it shake, and hearing the regret and the genuine warmth in it.)

My Academy days are long behind me, but - well, I'm glad to speak with Pinkie about it and borrow her textbooks.

Well we don't call it an academy, but yeah Pinkie, Flash, and I go to the same one. Although Flash and I aren't exactly on good terms...

But... Pinkie Pie and I are cool. Well... we are now, but we're cool.

(...she wouldn't, would she. Hikaru Hoshou was not fond of his ex: why would Flash Sentry be any different?)

I am sorry to hear that you two don't get along.

But I am glad to hear that Pinkie and the - the other Bearers are your friends. They are the best sort of people, on two legs or four.

Have you eaten since arriving? I can... get you something at a cafe, help exchange your bills for coin and help you find a place to stay.

It's okay. We avoid any fighting by pretty much not speaking to each other. Besides I can't blame him for being mad at me...

Sunset, one more thing I must stress. In private - which was what that other spell was for.

When I came here, my work back home was... not complete. Among other threats to the Caelestian Principalites was a fellow student of the Suncaller with great ambitions... who made bargains better unmade after losing favor. Her hair was the mixed red and gold of a shimmering sunset, and her name was Amber Rioja Marisol.

I am very glad to meet you. I was very glad to meet Luna, as well. For much the same reasons.

[She paid attention to Lucia's gestures, but then she began talking about something else. Though Sunset didn't know anything about this alternate Twilight's world, from how it sounded they had had trouble with the alternate Sunset Shimmer.

It's okay, I... I understand. I couldn't blame anyone who knows me to have problems with me, so i my alternate self was the same as the old me... I certainly can't blame you for feeling tense either.

Lucia was a noted coffee fiend; she was nursing an extra large cup of the stuff with cream and sugar, between bites of a croissant with cheese and green onions melted into the dough.

She also had a book on the Bellepheric Wars of the Pegasus City-States. Yeah, that's a Twilight alright.

As Sunset arrives, she quite literally tips her hat - the kind you'd expect on Trixie, not a Twilight; although it's got a more restrained indigo color/violet sash. "Hail and - and well met!" she says.

Her hesitation is genuine. So is her smile.

[The hesitation is expected. Sunset was used to it when she wasn't being glared at by the entire student body. Still, she put on a small, tey nervous, smile.]

Hey. You must be Lucia. It's... a pleasure to meet you.

"Likewise, I'm sure," she says - pulling out a seat. "The coffee and savories here are excellent. I guessed that you might prefer that to more sweets."

Alright, thanks. I could go for a coffee.

[She went ahead and placed her order before noticing the book. She looked at the title.]

The Bellepheric Wars of the Pegasus-City states. That sounds like an interesting book.

Yes. "The Bellepheron" was the elected leader of the old Roamin Republic; this is essentially the tale of the bloodiest voter recount in Equestrian history. Rather dramatic. Rather tragic. Mitigated a great deal by the rise of the Suncaller and the time of the Wendigo.

So. Pinkie tells me you're settling in well at the school. What classes are you taking? Which interest you? I imagine the thaumaturgy courses are... scant, there.

Well... as well as can be expected. I've been keeping a bit of a low profile due to... who I was before...

[Becoming a crazy she-demon and turning everyone into zombies wasn't exactly something that she could easily live down.]

But I'm not taking anything too spectacular. I'm taking stuff like chemistry, world history, and trigonometry. The human world doesn't really have any magic classes like thaumaturgy. But they still have books and stuff on magic and different types of mythology that I like to read in my spare time. So I'm into reading about that kind of stuff.

You could learn a great deal about alchemical processes through nonmagical chemistry, if you wanted to. How to make sungold and moonsilver...

How different is the history? Or is it shockingly similar? I've gotten used to shockingly similar.

Hmm... that's true. That may be something that I might look into...

Well there may be a few similarities, but there are plenty of differences. For example the founding of Equestria has similarities, there were sides that didn't get along and they tried to make a new land or various reasons. Although they didn't have anything like the Windigos... and they didn't exactly resolve their differences. Most sides got driven out and there were plenty of wars over control of the land.

That's a constant, unfortunately. The unification is the lies told to children version of the truth; accurate, but the real process was slower and more painful. Even as it stands it's incomplete.

This doesn't mean progress hasn't been made in making ponies, or humans, better. Nor that it isn't laudable and worth celebration. It's just a work in progress. It always will be.

[She's talking about Sunset, and herself, as much as she is about history.]

[She shifted a little uncomfortably at that.]

Yeah... but at least a little a work in progress is better than no progress at all.

I take it you never met a Twilight in their earliest days as Celestia's student?

No, the only Twilight that I've met became Celestia's student sometime after I let Equestria. So I only know a Twilight form after my days as a student.

Then let me tell you the story of an officious and antisocial little foal who refused to fit powers other than wizardry into her mindframe on the grounds that because she couldn't understand them, they could not be real.

No one should be proud of who they were as teenagers, I don't think.

They make the very best croissants here. Of course, we're spoiled for choice. Salt and sugar and spices are so common in Equestria...

They're pretty common in the world that I was in too. They use them for pretty much the same things that ponies do.
