I Need An Adult - Written

I need an adult. A responsible one.

I'm getting my papers in for the Canterlot equivalent of high school in, and they want someone other than Marvelous-papa to sign these sheets for me. Clearly the profession of "Professional Pirate" doesn't sit well with the board of directors.

I already asked Granny Smith but she pointed out that being my landlord technically doesn't give her the right to sign off on it.

So yeah... anyone I know over the age of 18 able to sign this for me? So I can go start taking school here? I've missed a lot of my freshman year.

I think it might just fall under it, if you're a teacher anyhow. They just want to know if I can provide for books.

It's... well, has anyone explained high school to you yet?

Huh well that's not too bad, but I'm preeeetty sure that other than being on the polo team, there's no fighting between schools.

At least you can provide the funds for my books.

[Open goes the chest....then it closes. He sets it down on the floor and the table it's on is flipped.]

... you're missing keys again, aren't you? Who do we blame now?

I don't know. But SOMEONE is gonna die!

[Probably not...but he feels like it now.]

Well there's something we hear once in a while.

[He'll kick the chest open, looking for any shred of a lead.]

It's not like I have a PKE meter or something to check for magic residue anyhow...

I don't know what the hell that is. Just look! There's gotta be SOMETHING leftover. No thief is perfect.

Geez, fine. I'll get the fairy tones to case the joint while I look.

Good. I wish the bird was here too. Then we could probably scan for the keys themselves.

I'm surprised you've never actually received her anywhere.

Maybe she counts as a person? That's why you never got her under the classification of "pet".

I am currently employed under grant from the Equestrian Magic Foundation. Should you require it, I may be able to sign the paper for you.

That'll be nice. I could use a second signature on this, and being connected to the foundation will help a lot.

What sort of school will you be attending, if I may ask? Standard general education or a specialized field?

All right, I can bring the paperwork over in a few hours once I'm done fielding most of the stuff I can do.

And it's a high school, or as close to one as possible. It's Canterlot Academy, and it's basically a school for ages 16 to 18. Standard generalized stuff but I can pick my courses.

Fair enough. It seems very similar to how it worked at my former place of residence. Should you require assistance in studying, I did teach for some time there, so it would not be much of a task for me to tutor you.

Bring the papers by the library when you are available. I will be there most of the day.

It's pretty standard. It does offer training for the junior ROTC but I'm not into that. I'm probably going to go into a music direction and see if I can't graduate or something. You never know.

And thanks, I need a little help on my math. I'll bring it by in an hour.

I would hope you enroll with the intention of graduating.

Math? That will not be a problem. I have taught it a few times before.

Well, y'know... I could vanish at any point in time. Not that I'm worried about it but I was gone for three years.

Ah, yes. Always an obstacle to one's goals. I lost a great many students that way.

[That or she scared them off by being a serious teacher. Could go either way.]

I would suggest you invest in graph paper. It will be useful for the myriad of function graphs you will draw.

Yeah. Granny was never happy when one of the actual intelligent students got droned back in Mayfield. It really put a damper on my own day when it happened to me once.

And all right, sounds good. At least I've got precise control for drawing them.

Several moments pass as Mako starts muttering under her breath.

"...I'm nineteen. I have like half a year before I turn twenty. When did that happen?"

"How many birthdays did I MISS?"

She's not entirely certain anymore. Her sense of time is all off.

"Huh... well accounting for time left unchecked, and we could probably just write off the whole thing."
