We Can Make this House a Home [Visual]

[There have been a lot of apologies going around since they'd managed to reforge the 'Fire of Friendship' to drive off the Windigos. Donna's been holding off, too embarrassed to join in the chorus, but there's really not a way to avoid it. At least she can limit the apology proper to the members of the commune. Everyone else? Well, there were a lot of people who could help with building.]

Hey, everybody. This is Donna Noble from the Ponyville Commune. We had some trouble recently and are looking for any help we can get to organize a building party. This isn't just for the commune, though, it's something I'd like to put together for something more regular in case any of us need the help. With everything we've faced since getting here, with as kind as the ponies in Ponyville are, I think we owe it to them to have some sort of, I dunno, on-call group. A bunch of us who'll come and fix something up if it gets knocked down in the latest invasion or whatever. If you'd like to help, please let me know. I'll be setting something up for the commune soon. I know the Agency needs some work for expansion, too, that we could see to helping with after that.

[Donna takes a deep breath before addressing the scroll this time.]

Donna, here, again. I just wanted to say everybody at the Commune that I'm sorry. I'm the one who half burned down the barn. I'll see to setting it right, help or not, but... I-I need to get ahold of the powers I've suddenly got. They're dangerous. I think I should probably leave for a bit until that's sorted. Plenty of nice caves in the Everfree. [Her smile is more half-hearted than she meant it to be.] I want to make sure the repairs happen, but after that, I'll see myself off just until I can figure out a little more control. Nephenee, I'm more than happy to keep track of the commune's finances still. Just might be a little more work communicating via scroll.

[Donna switches to a private channel because this should really be private.]

Okay, I'm really sorry about what happened during that storm. I was... I wasn't myself at all, and I feel so bad. I promise, that's never going to happen again.

[Violet shakes her head a bit.] No, it's okay. No one was really themselves that time.

Besides...I should be the one who's sorry.

[That's true enough, though Donna feels like some of her nastier side coming out was her becoming more herself again. The her before she'd met the Doctor.]

Let's both be sorry and be done with it, yeah? You know, we were fighting like that, and I don't even know your name. I'm Donna.

I'm Violet.

Violet? That's nice. I do really think your powers are cool, by the way. I think I was really mad because I was jealous.

...Thanks.

Jealous of what?

You being special. [There's a pause.] I'm... not. Never have been. I'm still a blank flank here, you know? Like one of the little foals.

[She frowns a little.]

Having these powers doesn't make me special. And being a blank flank doesn't mean you aren't. It means you still have a chance to find what it is that you do.

I didn't have a choice.

How d'you mean you didn't have a choice? For your cutie mark?

My cutie mark, my powers...what I'm going to do with my life because I have them. The only choices I have right now, is whether I want to be a hero or a villain.

[Or anti-hero, but whatever.]

Even if I could pretend to have a normal life...it's only a cover for what I really do.

Powers aren't normal where you're from, then? [There's a small pause.] But while you're here, you know you don't have to do any of that, right? You could probably be anything you want to if we get stuck here.

They're...known about. People with powers are called Supers, but there are far less Supers than regular people.

[More than she thought, though...or at least there had been.]

Maybe. Though that doesn't change the fact that I have these powers...that I have a "gift", and doing nothing seems like I'm just wasting them.

There's always going to be an expectation...even if it's just because I keep thinking about what my parents would say if I didn't use my powers the way I should be.

Well, what do you actually want to do? [There's a place to start. Donna can sympathize with feeling obligated to do something you don't want to, but Violet seems too young for that weight to be on her shoulders.]

...I don't know. I've never really thought about it.

Back home, pretending to be normal was hard enough. I didn't really think about what I'd do in the future.

What d'you like to do? [She's trying to be encouraging, really, to make up for what happened.] Girl like you, you've got to have hobbies to get away from everything.

[A sigh, and she tries to think.]

I like music...and I like reading fashion magazines... [Despite not having much of a style of her own.

Another pause as she really considers.]

I...I've started getting a bit into...tech stuff. Like...learning a little more about the gadgets my parents and other Supers use. It's pretty cool.

Oh, yeah? [Donna smiles, nodding her encouragement for Violet to go on.] Have you met Pollo? Or Andrew, maybe? They're both really talented mechanics if you're interested in that.

Oh yeah...I haven't met Andrew, but I work at Pollo's store.

I can't believe I haven't met you properly, yet! Andrew lives on the commune with me and Pollo. He does bigger inventions, I guess you'd call them. Pollo's got the delicate work, and Andrew does more heavy lifting. Have you been learning how to make Pollo's animals, then?

Well, to be honest, I....haven't been out meeting people too much.

[Mostly she's just been kind of hiding out in her room.]

Kind of? I haven't really had too much of a chance to learn...I didn't start working there until Hearth's Warming, and it was really busy then. And there was...y'know, that thing, and Pollo was I'm Stalliongard, so...

That...? Oh. [That Mechakara thing. Right. That's probably a little awkward to have from a mentor figure.]

Well, you should really get out! I can introduce you to Andrew, if you'd like. Don's something like an inventor, too. Donatello. He's at the commune, as well. I think he an Pollo were actually working on getting a television system working in Equestria.

[More like the Windigo thing. She wasn't actually around for Mechakara.]

I think I met Don. He left this communication device at my door.

[That was actually pretty cool.]

He's the green unicorn, yeah. You should come over for tea at the commune. [Donna offers the filly a brighter smile.] Once I've... gotten something else under control. [Her smile falters slightly.]

[A small smile.] Yeah, that sounds nice.

What are you trying to control? [That sounded a bit familiar.]

[Donna hesitates, uncertain if she should tell after she's just made a big to do about not being special or having powers. She's trying to be more honest, though.]

I... caught somebody's powers. A bit. A unicorn named Terra. That's why we need help with the commune. I... I accidentally set the barn on fire. I didn't even know I had them.
