Yeah, because it'll make a difference if we use our own power versus what power you give us when Tirek can suck up any kind of magic.

And in return, someone becomes your minion, with just as potentially unwinnable odds as they had before they agreed.

It's like fighting a brick wall. That keeps getting stronger each time it gets punched. It's getting fractured slightly every once in a while, cracked, a little injured. But it's still getting stronger.

No matter what's being thrown at it, it's just continually getting more and more powerful until there's nothing that can stop it.

The brick wall is Tirek. And giving the ponies even more power when he can suck it up could backfire horribly and make him even more powerful and unstoppable. Sure there are ponies that could use the power reasonably. But when somepony gets desperate... well...

Except you can throw enough rocks at the wall to shatter it. A better analogy is trying to blast a stream out of its banks with an ocean. They might both be made of water, but the ocean wins.

... I can't argue with that kind of logic. Still, this would result in a lot of ponies being indebted to you. And if everyone loses, well, they'd still be stuck serving you.

It's not exactly a fair balance.
