Oh, look, it's Hayate. The view from the scroll really only shows her face, almost as if she's deliberately hiding the rest of her body.

"So, uh....hi! Hello, Ponyville, it's great to be seeing you all again, after Tirek and all the...unpleasantness that followed after his defeat and all...You'll note that I didn't get power drained! Couldn't...he couldn't manage that, heh."

An awkward pause, strangely not accompanied by the sound of rustling feathers.

"No, uh, he...he kind of broke both my wings, instead. It'll...it'll be a while before I can fly again."

Hayate moves her scroll out enough to reveal that both her wings are indeed broken.

"...And then, you know, I got turned into something I'm not, not anymore, and...I dunno! I didn't really like being human, because I'm a pony! I'm supposed to be a pony, right?"

Hayate sags a little, even her ears drooping.

"And it's like...all this has been really hard on me, and...I dunno. Anybody feel like having a chat?"

That sounds like there's a story there. One that isn't pleasant. But perhaps there are pleasant stories of seeing spirits onward? "What does it all entail, then? Grabbing a hoof and flying them to the right place? Or... do you talk with them? I think I'd be a frightfully reluctant ghost." What with the possibilities of where he'd be headed in the afterlife still being what they are. Possibly.

"Oh... I say! Isn't that sort of meant to be the Pale Pony's job. The real Pale Pony's, I mean. The little car thingummy Andrew's got said something about an alicorn beazel snagging spirits and trotting off with them."

"That's got to get awfully hard, though." Bertie's brows furrow. "Have you ever had to see somepony off who seemed far too young to go? Kids and the like? Or parents who have still got kids?"

He's not really trying to be morbid, but he is curious, thinking of his own parents and what their journey off to the Racetrack in the Sky might have been like. He hopes they would have had a nice angel like Hayate.

His ears lower as she speaks, wings drooping a bit. But there's something good to be taken from that, something admirable, as horrible as it is. "You really are an angel."

Bertie's known it, of course, he's talked about God with Hayate briefly, seen her do good works, but there are somethings that just strike at the core of a chap, and that's one of them. He leans forward to wrap her in another hug. "Nephenee put up some sort of shrine for ponies - people - who'd passed that she knew, and others, too. I don't suppose you could put something up for Ms. Marion? That way you could still bring her flowers."
tinkertytonk: (how YOU doin'?)

"Let me know whenever you go and I'll come, too." Bertie offers another bracing smile. "Bit nicer than going it alone, and I wouldn't mind saying what ho to Ms. Marion, even if I can't see her. I daresay it's the sort of thing I'd be keen on, having extra chums about.

"And I do like picking out flowers. Do you know if she's got any favorites?"

Please don't start crying again, Hayate. Bertie's terrible with tears, even the joyful sorts. They make him feel as though he's doing something wrong.

But he is glad to see her glad, particularly when there's something easy she can still do to keep feeling like a regular sort of guardian angel. What else do they do? "Righto! We could stop out by the pond sometime to see what's blooming, if you'd like. I think that ought to be just about the ticket to get us a dozen colors or so.

"I wonder, are there any other things you usually do about town? I'm feeling a bit lost myself, these days." He offers a rueful shrug. "At least until Harvey calls on me again. I... don't suppose you'd like a deputy guardian angel or some such. I'd like to learn if I can."
tinkertytonk: (tea-ed up)

Shall we fade to black and maybe start up another log with guardian angel practice?

"Brilliant! I rather fancy the title already. Bertram Wooster, DGA! It sounds a bit like one of those private eye chappies who help people, too." And makes him feel like he might be doing some sort of good in the world, really. It's a warm and fuzzy sort of feeling without being too soppy.

"First, though, we've got a lot of tea to drink." He motions to the remaining cups. "I do hope you're thirsty, my dear!."
