Oh look, Mako's on the scrolls. What fascinating wisdom will she regale you all with this time?

"Somehow, I did it again - that's two years running. Equestria, you are bad for my long-term memory."

...some context would be nice, Mako.

"Anyway, yeah, it seems to be a theme that I can't remember my birthday anymore. I turned 20 last month, so...go me?"

Pause for thought.

"...does this make me too old to be a magical girl? Am I a magical woman now?"

"I don't see why not. She's a known manufacturer of power items, so it's possible she can build it for you."

After all, Yayoi built a Super Mode for her team.

"Well, I was more thinking lessons on building them...it might be better to make them out of materials found in my world, after all."

[pikapikapikarin]

"That's probably a good idea. Considering everything, building things out of a local material will help with adaptation and flexibility in building power sets."

[etranger]

"I might be able to do something with held items...hm."

Mako looks...lost in thought.

[pikapikapikarin]

"Held items? Like general power items from your world then?"

[etranger]

"Yeah, they're items that have some kind of resonance with a specific type and boost the power of that type's moves. Or maybe those plates I found in that sunken castle would work? There's one for every type, now that I think of it..."

[pikapikapikarin]

"I'd imagine having some basis for selective types would work. Most precure have a type or element to them. Fire, wind, lightning etc."

[etranger]

"Back home, there are 18 Types...Normal, Fire, Fighting, Water, Flying, Grass, Poison, Electric, Ground, Psychic, Rock, Ice, Bug, Dragon, Ghost, Dark, Steel, and Fairy."

Hmm...

"Quite a lot of those sound like they could be useful!" Exclaimed Yayoi happily. "Try thinking of possible combos."

[etranger]

"There's actually a hundred and seventy-one possible combinations if you discount duplicates, three hundred twenty four if you don't. Assuming the average team size is between three and four Precure, that's enough combinations to last for anywhere between...fifty one to eighty-seven teams. Hm."

Mako pauses, shaking herself out of her reverie, and looks at Yayoi.

"Would you like to come over and help me brainstorm some time?"

[pikapikapikarin]

"Sure I have time. I'm not particularly doing anything right now," said Yayoi, getting up from the couch she was laying on.

"I'll be over as soon as possible."

SUPER POWER STUDY SESSION

"Okay! I'll be waiting!"

And with that, Yayoi is off! She's headed towards and soon is knocking at Mako's door.

"I'm here!"

Up on the roof, Sigilyph fluffs her feathers and opens the door with a quick application of telekinesis, revealing a grinning Mako.

"Hey! I've got everything set up, so come on in!"

"Awesome. I brought also along some chocolate for the brainstorming," said Yayoi, holding out the box.

[etranger]

"Great! I made flash cards!"

A pause as she takes the box.

"And also cocoa."

[pikapikapikarin]

"Sounds like the perfect combo." Said Yayoi seriously with a wide grin.

"Lets get to it! What do we have to work with now?"

[etranger]

Mako sets the box of chocolate down on the kitchen counter as she indicates the various flash cards on the dining table, along with two mats labeled 'Physical' and 'Special'.

"Basically, every Type has a sort of general theme to their moves, and the way these interact with each other can get pretty complex. This is kind of a simplified version, since it's entirely offense-oriented, without taking into consideration defensive concerns. The way I see it, we can use the flash cards and the mats to sort of 'prototype' the general thrust of the powers, forming a kind of rough blueprint for the transformation device."

Mako's really smiling - she hasn't had a chance for a group research session in ages.

"Looks easy enough. Bridging the gap between two similar types is one of the core things about Precure powers, even if they come from different types." She tapped the fire and rock types. "These two go well together, fire being a strong power type for one."

Mako considers the cards, drumming one hoof against the floor.

"The thing about the Rock type is that it's extremely short on special attacks, so we'd have to put that combination in the Physical category. And the problem with that is that Rock attacks are mostly projectiles, while most physical Fire moves are melee-range."

Moving the mats so they're touching, Mako then places the Fire and Rock cards squarely in the middle.

"If we wanted to make use of the range aspect, we'd have to split the power equally between Physical Rock and Special Fire."

"If you do that, you'd need to introduce a bit of flexibility. Teach the two types how to combine their two aspects into a singular whole." Said Yayoi, pointing at the cards.

"Between the two, there's a lot of close-in power but if you cover that in fire for special, it might offer more umph to the hits."

Hmmm...

"So you mean...cover the rocks in fire, and then throw them?"

Mako considers.

"In the most basic laymans terms. You could even turn the rocks into some kind of armor, and then use that for punch and kick moves too."

"And then you could combine one or more elements with another users power. Back home, during the final battle Fire and Wind combined into a flaming storm, and Lightning with Ice into a electrified crystal."

Mako spends a while considering the flash cards and the mats before making some adjustments.

"Rock for defense, Physical Fire for the actual attack? That could work...Rock has a defensive move designed to protect against area-of-effect attacks...hm."

"Plus it'd look cool, balancing the two abilities out," added Yayoi. "Like forming a wall of rock and then punching through it with fire."
