experiment 4: visual
[Oh hey, it's Doc again! So soon? Yup. But he looks a little...deflated. His mane's not quite as wild as usual, and the goggles are gone. He's actually set aside the work for a few minutes---but not for long, as everyone will hear.]
First, I want to assure everyone that all clock and mask orders will still be completed on time, as promised, but I'm afraid I must close to new orders for the next two days. I have a bit of a personal matter to sort out---and as it affects some of you as well, I'll go ahead and announce it.
Marty McFly is no longer with us in Equestria. If he was in possession of anything of yours, feel free to come by the---my apartment in the Commune to claim it. And before you ask, absolutely no one is weaseling their way into claiming the guitar, so don't bother trying it.
[For a moment, he looks lost, and then it looks like he might say more...but he changes his mind with a shake of his head and quietly shuts it off.]
[private to those in the know---Tadashi, Dandy, Pollo, and Andrew]
I'll be able to turn my full attention to the time mission now. Expect the field-tests to be soon, if you'd like to participate.

[He rummages some more, looking hopeful for a moment.]
I have some tapes, if you'd like those?
[Visual]
[It's something and a nice little reminder.]
I don't even care what's on them, I'll take them.
[Visual]
I somehow doubt it given our pasts, but should Marty ever return...we'll have to reassemble these items quickly. I don't want him thinking I've given everything away as if he's dead.
[Oh. Oh dear. He really shouldn't think about that, not with all the uncertainties that hang over their heads.]
[Visual]
[He doubts it.]
It's just something nice to go "oh hey, I'm not a total loser."
[Visual]
Why would anyone think that you were?
[Visual]
[Visual]
Loser is an exceptionally strong word. For anyone to be so arrogant as to declare that another person has no hope of achieving a meaningful life is some of the most narrow-minded ignorance I have ever seen. And it happens entirely too often.
Everyone has the potential to be great. You're no exception.
[Visual]
...you think?
I mean, no offense. But I'm not...a superhero or a time traveler or...whatever the hell Discord is. Ok, I'm glad I'm not a Discord.
[Visual/Private]
[Yeah, he's just casually admitting to it. But with how close Cameron and Marty were, he has to have known already, right?]
And we certainly don't need any more Discords in the world. But believe me when I say that all you need to make a difference in this world is an open mind and an open heart.
[Visual/Private]
If that's all it takes, then uh...guess I better go into brain surgery.
[Laughs at himself.]
[Visual/Private]
[Visual/Private]
[Visual/Private]
Don't worry, it won't be.
[Visual/Private]
But whatever, I'm sure you must be feeling worse I mean...Marty was your friend? Student? Right?
[Visual/Private]
I've lived and worked alone for most of my life---friendship was somewhat of a foreign concept to me. It all changed one morning, when I found some punk kid snooping in my garage---Marty. He was just about the first person in 30 years to be interested in my work and willing to give me a chance, so I hired him as my assistant.
We had more in common than I ever could've guessed, and in time he became a friend. My first real friend...and because he had faith in me when no one else was willing to give me the time of day, I've accomplished everything I have now. Not a whole hell of a lot, but. Enough.
But I'll be all right. He taught me how to reach out to others...and we always seem to find each other again eventually, even against impossible odds.
[Visual/Private]
Guess that's why being here sucks. There's no way for Ferris to call me up and tell me to get my ass into gear. You must be feeling the same, huh?
[Visual/Private]
[He looks on sympathetically.]
Yes. I take it Ferris is someone very close to you?
[Visual/Private]
He gets on my nerves, he pushes me around, he acts like he's got it all figured out...so yeah, of course he's my friend.
[Visual/Private]
[He smiles fondly, remembering a few squabbles with Marty back in Hill Valley.]
But they also have our backs when times are toughest.
[Visual/Private]
Hope he's doing—nah, he's ok. He's Ferris.
I guess what I'm hoping is: I hope he misses me. Serves him right.
[Visual/Private]
I hope I'll have the chance to meet him someday. He would undoubtedly be interesting.
