But, that wasn't her. She was like the other Twilight Sparkle, just a program from Mayfield. She'd never experience that at all. And that's what is hurting her right now.]

It matters when your beliefs and memories are directly ripped from someone else's, when you want to go in that same direction, but it's impossible to do so when you're not that person. It's wanting to go one way and having to go another.

The only difference between you and everybody else is that you've thought very seriously about the possibility that you're just a copy... that you believe it. If you didn't believe it, it wouldn't be impossible, would it?

That's why it matters to ask, what if everyone is a copy? It doesn't change anything for anyone if that's true, because they don't know it's true. They go on with their lives. You believe it, and you believe it matters, so it does.

Look at it this way: Say you believe, with all your heart, that you can never go one mile down the road that leads out of town or you'll drop over dead. It doesn't matter whether that's true or not, because you'll never try.

Oh no, I'm not saying that. I'm saying that if you believe being a clone limits you, then you are limited by being a clone.

If it's not prying too much, though... how do you know you're a clone?

Because of a town called Mayfield. It was a virtual town and everyone brought there was also virtual. Because the higher-ups couldn't bring the original versions to the town, they made digital clones of the ones they tried to bring in. That's what Nozomi and I are.

Okay, but -- and I'm sorry, I'm not trying to offend your or anything, I just want to understand -- why do you believe this?

Because it's the truth. It's not just because they told us we're clones in a digital plane; it's because we were in a digital plane and we couldn't have been there unless we were created to live there.

To be fair, I know a couple of people who could have gone to a digital plane despite not being created to live there, but... that's not the point. How did you know it was a digital plane?

I saw the code that held it together. I saw that same code undo itself and fall apart. The town was always unstable and grew increasingly so until eventually, it collapsed. It was as if it were being torn out of reality. After a while, I think I started to feel it, too.

That's a pretty good reason, admittedly. But it could all have been an illusion.

That's a possibility I don't like thinking about. I've questioned enough things already; I just want to enjoy what's in front of me.

You're looking at it the wrong way. The possibility is what frees you to enjoy. You can't know what reality is. The absolute truth... it's unknowable. And at the same time it's what you believe it is, because that's what defines reality.

Then I believe my reality is to be happy with my friends.

Now you have to have the will to act on it, and the strength to make that belief come true -- stronger than anyone who believes otherwise.

A stronger will that needed a push in the right direction. My friends were able to provide me that because when I couldn't believe in myself, I was able to believe in them.
