[This holiday season, the scroll feed is proud to present... a bleary-eyed sky-blue pony with white bed hair that encompasses his entire head. Groggily, he pushes himself semi-upright and smacks his lips, blinking off his sleep.]

...hhh...where...where in the world am I, do you suppose?...Archimedes? Archimedes, are you about somewhe- oh.

[Enough cognisance has been regained that he suddenly notices his hoof, and he examines it for a moment.]

...mm. That's odd. I don't remember turning into a shetland pony. Let's see now...

[Finally getting up, the old equine trots around a bit, giving himself a once over.]

Beard's still here, unusual, that. The rest seems OH! Oh, that had better not be a tattoo down there. Ngh... won't rub off. No, that won't do, I'm not going through that nonsense again. Now, where I w...Hmm. Glasses still there, that's good. Pointy hat? Yes, yes, that seems to be in good nick. Bit crumpled, but nothing a goo- ...by george, is that a horn on my head?!

[Confusion gives way to dismay when Merlin sees the poor frightened creature on the scroll. The woman is scared of him, and he has no idea why. That is, until he connects a few dots from his prior conversations.]

[That causes her to blink.]

...hmmm- it appears to be my old magic staff, and, er, it's resting atop a set of...yes, I think I recognise those textbooks from my shelf at home. Not a bad likeness actually. Mm. So, if I were to guess, I'd say it symbolises my...well, obviously my magical prowess and knowledge, but it does also encapsulate my passion for higher education. Heh, rather appropriate, putting those together.

[Like Star Swirl. A magician and teacher. Celestia manages to keep her smile, though.]

Do you enjoy teaching, Merlin?

Oh, naturally, yes. Nothing more valuable than a well-stocked mind, I say. Too many people these days just barging through life, no interest in anything other than short term pleasures. Give them a problem, and they'd be content to bash it until it goes away, no no no no no... If someone's going to make any headway in life, they've got to know where they're going. Got to know the way things work. Got to think clearly enough to work their way around a puzzle, and do it carefully...

So, er, *ahem*, think I got a little rambly there. My point is, knowledge and wisdom are the real power in this world, so, if I should meet some young lad or lass who's going to amount to something in life, I like to make sure they've got the means to do it. Er, come to think of it, the last lad I tutored was a royal too, you know.

Well, we have plenty of teachers and tutors for higher level students in Canterlot, but not in Ponyville. I might suggest opening up a school there, for those outside of elementary school, if you're interested?

[Stammering and stuttering intensifies]

I-I-J-B-Y-D-V-G-N-U-Well! Well. That sounds like a stupendous idea, it really does. A lot of responsibility to take on all at once, maybe, b-b-but I think I'd be-be up for the challenge.

Erm, just as long as you're all right with launching something on such a grand scale, just because some doddering old fool just dropped into town, heh huh huh huh...

I think it would be lovely for Ponyville to have more advanced magic classes, and you seem like you have a grasp of magic, just from your interactions here.

However. I don't want to impose such on you unless you're comfortable with it, of course!

Oh, no no no, by all means! It was just a bit of a surprise, at first, that's all. It'll be an exciting new experience, teaching so many pupils in the way of magic. Admittedly, I haven't usually gone beyond a one-on-one tutoring, but: Nothing ventured, nothing gained, I always say.

I'm glad to hear you're interested! It will be nice to see the ponies of Ponyville and the surrounding area get a world class secondary education without worrying about travelling to her it.

[Merlin can't help giving a flattered chuckle at this.]

Well, I, er... World class education shall certainly be my aim. I'd hate to settle for less, ho ho ho ho...
