[Marty looks... sad today. Not that it's entirely unusual, but he can't bring himself to even look right at the scroll when he opens it up.]

Hey, so I might just be jumping the gun here, but does anyone know how to sell a house? I probably won't be able to pay the bills here by myself.

[He attempts to say this casually, but judging by how he's rubbing his arm and still not actually looking at the screen, something must be up.]

[Doc greets him almost immediately, but once Marty steps in he'll see the lab's a mess once more. Almost all the objects seem to be dog-related ...well, it seems someone has an idea.

But more important than that right now is Marty. He smiles sadly.]

Come in, watch your step, one of those balls might have a mind of its own at the moment...here, have a seat.

[The chairs have also become more comfortable over the past few weeks---all those cushions he's bought have really transformed it into a cozy little disaster area.]

[Marty smiles when he sees Doc's lab as he sinks into the chair. Well it should have only been a matter of time before Doc's lab went back to it's usual state.]

Are you thinking about getting a dog already?

[Doc looks sheepish.]

I've missed the companionship---I don't know if any of the dogs you mentioned are still available for adoption, but if I'm going to offer myself as a candidate, I need to be prepared.

[He shakes his head.]

And speaking of companionship, it'd help if you were able to enter whenever you wanted. Here.

[And there's the key held out. He's already hooked it to a small chain.]

I'm sure you'll be fine, Doc.

[He smiles.]

Thanks, I promise I won't lose it.

[He takes it, but he can't help but fall silent quickly. It's really hard to forget about someone who just vanished after seeing them for over a year, sorry Doc.]

[His young friend's deeply unhappy---that's obvious even to Doc. He gently nudges his shoulder.]

I know I'm no replacement for her, but I'll help you look. If we do find her, though...I may need a face mask.

[Marty manages a weak smile.]

Hey, I don't think she's going to beat you up for helping to find her.

Perhaps not, but. Even if she had cause to be furious with me...I can face it if it'll make you happy.

[He sighs.]

That dog will help us as well...though come to think of it, that might be why she's never liked me. I fall into the category of 'dog person'.

If she hated dog people that much she would have kicked me out the moment I suggested getting one, Doc.

[He playfully rolls his eyes.]

[He laughs.]

For her to tolerate a dog for your sake...she's really something. I hope I get the chance to thank her someday.

I'm sure you two would get along eventually. She's usually not super warm with people she's just met anyway.

[Wow way to paint a glorious picture of Arcee, Marty.]

You don't say...but if she was that fond of you, she's worth knowing. I'll give it my best.

[His smile stretches on.]

And since you're sure it's all right with her...I'll most definitely be adopting a dog this week. Assuming the shelter still has one available.

I'm sure they'll still have one. If not I'm sure some place could have a dog we could adopt.

Excellent. Naturally we'll want one who's comfortable with both of us...and he's got to have that thirst for knowledge. I'll know it when I see it, I've done this dance a time or two before. My testing hasn't failed me yet! The perfect partner's out there, I guarantee it.

[Yes. He's going to treat this like a job interview. A very fuzzy, cuddly job interview.]
