We Can Work It Out [audio]
[All right, this has gone long enough. Hiding in her little cottage is really not working. In spite of being embarrassed about the mossy mess that her mane as become, Donna takes to the scrolls.]
Okay. Scientists. I know there are, like, 20 of you out there. What's actually being done about this Poison Joke thing and how can we help? Because I'm about sick of having my hair constantly damp and slightly slimy. It's a mess on my pillow in the morning, and I'd really rather not live life on plastic sheets, thanks.
I know the regular cures for the Joke aren't working. What's next?

How much of the Poison Joke d'you think you'd need to experiment with?

[And so, Donna Noble, intrepid and drippy of mane goes slopping into the Everfree Forest in search of Poison Joke flowers. She's already infected anyway, isn't she? It's with a few more scratches and after evading a bear that definitely had a stinger and stripes like a bee, that she makes it to the town shop. She tries to be a little discreet, but there's a trail of scummy water that follows after her as she walks. She knocks on the door to Doc Brown's shop.]
Hullo? Is anybody in?
[action]
[Yes, the Doc is in. His mane isn't as bad-off as hers, but very unusually for him, it's completely flat---not that he's affected too badly, it's mostly overwork.]
Ms. Noble?
[action]
Doc Brown, isn't it? You can call me Donna.
[And she's just a little giddy, maybe, in spite of all this. Marty McFly and Doc. Ah, it's a treat.]
I've got your flowers in there. Best be careful, though. If you need anymore I did find a good patch of them.
[action]
[Doc's determined for that to be the case.]
Come in, sit down, this place is a dump anyhow you'll be harming nothing.
[action]
I can help you clean if up after all this is over, if you'd like. Not afraid to get a bit of grease on the elbows. What are you working on in here right now? Apart from the Poison Joke, I mean.
[action]
[action]
Yeah, I... my friend, Andrew, wanted to help with that, but he's... [She shrugs noncommittally.] Home, you know? I've got experience with time machines, though. Used to travel in one called the TARDIS.
[action]
[He begins the chemical reaction then, watching the small fire go.]
TARDIS? I may have heard about it before. What was it like?
[action]
It was amazing. Nothing like the De- [probably don't want to mention that] -dealies I'd seen on the telly. Sci-fi shows, you know? It's shaped like an old Police Box from the 1950s, but it's so much bigger on the inside. The TARDIS is alive, and she's wonderful, knows just where to stick you when there's trouble that needs sorting. The Doctor did a lot of that.
Sorting trouble, I mean. Had to get him out of it more than once.
[action]
Of course, there was one question front and center in his mind. "Of all things, why a police box?"
[action]
She only snorts at the question. "Have you ever heard of a 'Chameleon Circuit?' It's meant to let the TARDIS disguise herself for wherever she is, but it broke and the Doctor never got 'round to fixing it. Guess he was in London when it went all pear shaped. Personally, I think he just likes it that way now. It's got a perception filter - this sort of thing so nobody thinks it's weird. Reckon that's enough to keep it hidden. More or less."
Sometimes.
[action]
He shook his head. "But I've got my plan, he's got his. And currently we're more concerned about getting ourselves back to normal, correct? I won't dilly-dally further."
[action]
"I'll leave you do it if you want to get back to work. Or... if there's something I could do to help a bit? Maybe tidy up the place for you? At least the mess. Might drip everywhere, though." She wrinkles her snout.
[action]
She's not that kind of sick, Doc, but okay. Start worrying about her already, why don't you.
