I find this all a bit odd for someone evil. Are you sure you really are a dark lord still? I feel like this is one of those moments where if it were me, my sister would tell me to take a look at the word in the dictionary.

It's not my fault you don't understand nuance! What would the point be of doing things that decrease your power base and wreck your ability to do things? Evil isn't stupid!

[Nuance was one of the words Pippin would have to look up in the dictionary.]

[The Overlord furiously sputters.] You -- you're not seeing the logic here at all! Look, what does an Overlord need? SUBJECTS! What does an Overlord not have if he craps up the place? SUBJECTS!

Overlord? You keep saying that word. Are we truly speaking of the same type of person? I speak of a dark lord, the one that is the embodiment of evil and only brave heroes can stand against. The type that haunts a lad long after he has laid eyes on him.

[Pippin pauses, looking far more serious than he has this entire conversation.] Someone with a stare like Calice.

It's not something one should claim to be willy-nilly. That kind of darkness spreads death across the land and shadows even after it's gone.

Exactly! See, you're getting it now. Except don't you dare compare that imposter Calice to a TRUE Overlord. I claimed my Netherworld with my own strength, not some fancy corrupted friendship artifacts! And I kept my sanity in the process!

[Pippin frowns and goes quiet.]

Lord Zetta, I don't think that we have the same definition of dark lord at all.

I would like to belive that you're not like the one that tried to take my home world before.

Well, it sounds like yours wasn't really responsible about the whole thing, for one!

He was called Sauron. I once saw him as a great burning eye. His stare felt like Calice's. It chilled me to the bone.

He was master of armies of orcs and monsters and by his might they killed thousands of good people. When I think of evil and overlords I think of what I witnessed during that war.

...Why were there still any good people left in that Netherworld to kill?

[Seriously, were all the demons just screwing around the entire time?]

[Pippin shakes his head.] My home is not a Netherworld! The only land where trees refused to grow and flowers didn't bloom was in Mordor where Sauron reigned. Sauron would kill or enslave all the good peoples of Middle Earth if he were to succeed.

Hey, Netherworlds have trees and flowers and crap like that. But what you're saying is that this alleged Overlord didn't actually rule a Netherworld, he was trying to transform your world into one.

Yes. I believe that is what he wanted. So you see, I want to believe that you are very different from him.

Damn straight! I'm competent! And I AM an Overlord, not just claiming the title without the actual Netherworld to back it up!

I never doubted that you were powerful Lord Zetta. My worry is that your heart is like Sauron's heart. -If he had one. That you have similar intentions, regardless of whether he was a true overlord in your eyes or not.

[Pippin lowers his head and closes his eyes.]

I don't need orcs and conquest to claim a world. That's the difference between him and me.

After all.. everyone here is already my loyal subject now, right? [The Overlord grins, all smug confidence. If it took changing himself and growing as a person to win rulership of Equestria, he doesn't really intend to mention that.]

[Pippin can't appreciate such an answer. Whether Zetta realized it or not the little pony's worry was bubbling up to a peak.]

Are you good, Lord Zetta? Are you kind or... like any of the Elements at all?

Good? Hyaaa ha ha ha ha! I'm a demon! An Overlord! A ruler of a Netherworld! Evil is in my job description, and my Element is power. Only by learning the true nature of power did I gain these wings!
