[This holiday season, the scroll feed is proud to present... a bleary-eyed sky-blue pony with white bed hair that encompasses his entire head. Groggily, he pushes himself semi-upright and smacks his lips, blinking off his sleep.]

...hhh...where...where in the world am I, do you suppose?...Archimedes? Archimedes, are you about somewhe- oh.

[Enough cognisance has been regained that he suddenly notices his hoof, and he examines it for a moment.]

...mm. That's odd. I don't remember turning into a shetland pony. Let's see now...

[Finally getting up, the old equine trots around a bit, giving himself a once over.]

Beard's still here, unusual, that. The rest seems OH! Oh, that had better not be a tattoo down there. Ngh... won't rub off. No, that won't do, I'm not going through that nonsense again. Now, where I w...Hmm. Glasses still there, that's good. Pointy hat? Yes, yes, that seems to be in good nick. Bit crumpled, but nothing a goo- ...by george, is that a horn on my head?!

Equestria, hm? Well I suppose that does account for the amount of talking equines. But wouldn't such a name make more sense for a land of jockeys? Hm. Perhaps I'm overthinking this.

[ Feena laughs. You're a funny man.]

It's wonderful to meet you, Merlin. [Aw, such a nice man, the way he's calling her 'dear'. No adults call her that where she's from, since she was pretty much seen as an adult in her world. No one's called her that since...

You probably need a place to stay, right? There's the communes a little outside of town, and there's a shrine. A girl owns it, though I don't know her name.

A shrine? Oh, well, I wouldn't want to impose. Sounds like something of great cultural significance here.

You wouldn't be imposing at all! I've talked to the girl before, and she has no problem with taking others in.

Though, if you don't want to stay there, like I said there's the communes. It's like a hotel that was built to shelter offworlders. You can stay there for free, if you help out with chores and such.

Ah. Well, thank you, Feena, I'll take both of those into account. I'm not terribly choosy and particular about my habitat. Most of my time is spent in a cottage buried deep in the woods, after all.

You're welcome, Merlin. It would be nice if you stayed at the communes, because that's where I'm staying and maybe we'll bump into each other! [Feena smiled.]

Well, not entirely. There's my familiar, Archimedes, a highly educated owl. Then there's the various inanimate objects I enchant to fulfil a particular need; they often end up taking on personalities. (Though in the case of the sugar bowl, perhaps a little less personality wouldn't go amiss)ahem...

Oh, so you're a magician! [That's the correct term, right?] I wish I could enchant things to give them life. Can you imagine if someone came to visit me and how shocked they would be to see a broom sweeping the floor by itself, and pots and pans washing themselves?

[Feena starts laughing. She may be a nice girl and all, but I guess everyone has their mischievous side.]

Hm, well... As fun as that sounds, the last time I tried a clean-up like that, the homeowner's first instinct was to declare it black magic and bash anything that moved to pieces.

Count yourself fortunate you don't have to live in the middle ages, that's all I can say.

[Feena wipes her eyes, trying to recover from her laughing fit.]

Aw, really? That's awful. I don't think you have to worry about people freaking out over your magic here, though. Most ponies here are used to magic and such.

Ah, wonderful. Yes, this does seem like a rather friendly place to live. Very charming residents...(with the exception of the odd chinese dragon, it seems).

Yes, most of everyone here are really friendly. You won't have a hard time at all making friends. [She guesses, at least. You seem like a good man, Merlin, so she's just going off of what she knows from you so far.]

...Hey. Where are you? Would you like me to come find you and show you where the communes are, so you can get settled in? It also might make you feel a bit better to talk to someone in person, instead of on the scrolls.

Well, I appear to, um... I appear to be in a field or on a hill of some kind. I think I see a clocktower over there.

Hm... a clocktower... Okay, I think I know where you are, so I'll be there shortly.

[And with that, the visual of Feena's face disappears, and the scroll is off. And true to her word, it doesn't take her long to find Merlin, and before you know it there's a white Earth pony with green hair approaching.]

Gladly. [Feena giggles and begins walking.] So, Merlin, what's the name of the place where you're from?

Well, my current place of residence was England, circa 5th century. Not a very pleasant time and place to be around, I fear. Backwards feudal society, strong preying on the week... and no indoor plumbing or electricity.

Fortunately, we've started to turn things around a little. My young pupil, Arthur, ascended to the throne not long ago. There's going to be some real progress under his watch, I promise you that.

From what you tell me of this 'England', it's probably best you've been brought here after all, huh? I come from a continent called Elencia, and I live outside a town called New Parm.

...'Pupil'? Were you a teacher of sorts?

Why, yes, actually. You see, it started off with a premonition that the lad was going to drop into my life- and, indeed, into my sitting room, heh heh heh. Now, I knew he was going to be very important some day, but I couldn't quite tell why. So I took it upon myself to give the boy a proper education. None of those silly 'page duties' or being stuck as a squire, and not learning anything except how to wash dishes or knock someone off a horse with a bit of a stick, thank-you-very-much!

...erm, but I digress.

Ahahahaha! [Merlin, you are such a strange man.] Well, it was kind of you to take the boy in. I bet you're really proud of what Arthur's accomplished.
