Well, in lieu of the upcoming event, which is Nightmare night. I’m offering free costumes to all the foreign ponies. Anything your heart desires, just as long as it’s doable and not dangerous to society, I’ll make it.
So we all know the drill right? Come to my boutique, tell me what you wish and I will grant them for you. I want everyone to have a good time this Nightmare night so everyone gets a costume.

[Zetta snorts, then passes the scroll over to Twilight with a wry sidelong look.]

That's your love, friendship, and forgiveness crap for you.

To be fair, Bertie broke Fluttershy's heart after she trusted him with it. Forgiving him won't exactly be easy.

Don't get me wrong, even I think that was a dick move. But you're just making my point of WHY THE HELL AM I ON THE SAME LEVEL AS HIM?!

It can mean one of two things: either she's teasing you or she's still upset about you pushing Fluttershy into a pond.

Either way, I'm pretty sure she's expecting a response from you.

Well, she's not getting one. I've been playing her game for long enough, and so far all it's got me is an explanation of how much she hates me. She thrives on attention, so she's going to learn that stuff like this gets her less instead of more.

I thought that was the sort of attention you wanted...or does that not apply to mares you're trying to be with?

Hmm. I need to give you another lesson, in the concept of 'playing hard to get'.

The art of playing hard to get is to keep your other number enticed, enraptured, intrigued. There's always that promise that something will win her over, some word or deed will be good enough. There's underlying hints that the attention is quietly welcome, no matter how grandiose the rebuff.

Take the other Rarity, for example. Doesn't give any of my flirtations the time of day, acts haughty as hell of course... also making me a kickass cape. See how it works?

So it's about passively showing affection for another while actively saying the opposite?

Even showing 'affection' isn't necessarily a part of it. Sometimes it's enough to just not tell someone to go away, they're unwelcome and their interest isn't welcome.

So it's like I said: teasing.

That kind of implies playfulness. That's not always true.

So you otherwise play hard to get by literally acting like you don't want it?

Like you don't want it, but could potentially be swayed with time and effort. If they leave, all the effort they put in to luring you to them was wasted. If they stay, there's always that chance they might succeed...

So you're going to play your own version of hard to get by not playing her game of hard to get?

Guys can't play hard to get, we're too damn obvious about who we'd cheerfully hook up with given an ounce of permission. Besides, Rarity isn't playing hard to get, here, she's just living in freaking denial.

Then what's the next step? Stop talking to her and wait for her to come to you?

Good question. For now I'm going to see how she takes this. It could be any number of ways, so each will take a different strategy.

Sounds good. Wait for now and act accordingly when something happens. That means figuring out what to do in the meantime...

(A pause as she thinks it over.)

...Do you want to see if anyone's doing anything interesting over the scrolls? Maybe someone's will practice flying and record it happening.

(Because comical injuries are totally Zetta's thing, right?)

[The notion that Twilight is attempting to cheer him up or distract him from his annoyance is completely alien to the demon Overlord, so he doesn't have the slightest idea of how to take it.]

...Is that not something you do?

I don't know; I just...thought it was something you would enjoy. You know, something to distract from dealing with Rarity.

[Zetta lifts his head abruptly, the better to look down on her from a foreboding height disapprovingly.]

Oh, I get it. This is you trying to lay the friendship and love crap on me.

What? No, I'm not! I'm just being supportive. That's what you're supposed to do when someone's having relationship problems, isn't it?

It's not exactly a relationship, and how is being supporting not the friendship and love crap anyway?
